If you haven't yet met Inde Navarrette, you will soon. The rising star has already hosted Saturday Night Live on Halloween and is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Rogue in the upcoming X-Men reboot. But before she suits up alongside Samara Weaving, Sadie Sink, and Adam Driver, audiences can catch her in the film that made her a household name—Curry Barker's Obsession—which lands on Netflix this November.
After a successful run on Peacock, Obsession will make its Netflix debut on November 17, bringing its unique blend of psychological horror and social commentary to a whole new audience. While the premise—a cursed object with a deadly twist—is familiar territory, Barker's fresh take elevates it beyond the typical scare-fest. The real horror lies in the 'nice guy' persona, whose obsession reveals a chilling misogyny that feels all too relevant today.
Barker's direction, particularly his innovative use of lighting, has drawn widespread praise, and Navarrette's performance has been called Oscar-worthy by critics. The film currently holds a 93% critics' score and a 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, a rare feat for a genre picture. It's no wonder both Barker and Navarrette are being hailed as Hollywood's next big talents.
What's Next for Curry Barker?
At just 28, Barker is showing no signs of slowing down. On Halloween, he returned to his YouTube roots with a five-minute horror short called Mama Bear, which he wrote, directed, and edited—and it's free to watch now. But that's just the beginning.
In May 2027, Barker will release Anything But Ghosts, a horror-comedy he says deserves a 'free pass' after the success of Obsession. The film reunites him with Obsession co-star Cooper Tomlinson and adds heavyweights like Aaron Paul and Bryce Dallas Howard to the mix. On top of that, Barker is attached to direct a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre for A24, as well as an untitled project from Universal and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.
For those who can't get enough of Barker's work, his YouTube channel remains a treasure trove of short films, and his upcoming slate promises even more genre-bending thrills. Meanwhile, Navarrette's star is only rising, with her MCU debut and other projects on the horizon.
