For fans of The Sandlot, the wait for a proper reunion is finally over—and it's coming in a way that feels both fresh and nostalgic. Patrick Renna, who famously played the trash-talking catcher Hamilton "Ham" Porter in the 1993 classic, is co-creating a new comedy series titled Dugout Dads alongside Kyle Howard. The show will reunite much of the original cast for the first time on-screen in over three decades, bringing their beloved chemistry to a whole new generation.
Renna and Howard developed the series through their production company, Hambino Media, and Renna will also star as the lead. According to the announcement, the series follows an idealistic dad who jumps at the chance to coach his kids' Little League team—only to discover that managing a bunch of rowdy ten-year-olds is the easy part. The real chaos comes from the other coaches, overzealous parents, and his own well-meaning but misguided instincts. As Coach Patrick learns, the most important lesson he can teach—and learn—is that baseball should be fun.
The project marks a major reunion for The Sandlot ensemble. Tom Guiry (Scotty Smalls), Chauncey Leopardi (Squints), Marty York (Yeah-Yeah), Brandon Quintin Adams (Kenny DeNunez), Victor DiMattia (Timmy Timmons), Shane Obedzinski (Tommy Timmons), Grant Gelt (Bertram), and Will Horneff (Mike "The Great Hambino" Weber) are all set to appear. They'll be joined by another '90s icon: Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel, who will play Renna's on-screen wife. While the familiar faces will delight fans, all characters are original creations, not direct continuations of their Sandlot roles.
Renna shared in a statement that the idea for Dugout Dads came directly from his own experiences coaching Little League. "After years of coaching Little League, I’ve witnessed some truly epic meltdowns on the field, and it’s always the adults (I’d be lying if I said it was never me). I just knew those experiences had to become a show," he said. "What makes it even more special is that it’s bringing me back together with the cast of The Sandlot, guys I’ve shared a unique bond and brotherhood with for more than 30 years. It feels like a story I was meant to tell, with exactly the right people to tell it with."
This isn't the first attempt to revive the Sandlot magic. Two direct-to-video sequels failed to capture the original's charm, and a planned Disney+ series was announced in 2019 but never made it to the plate. Dugout Dads finally gives fans the reunion they've been waiting for—and it's arriving with a fresh, comedic twist that feels both personal and universal. The series has all the makings of a classic sports comedy, blending nostalgia with new stories about the joys and absurdities of youth sports.
For those who grew up quoting "You're killing me, Smalls!" and dreaming of a perfect summer, this news is a home run. The Sandlot cast's enduring bond is a testament to the film's lasting impact, and Dugout Dads promises to channel that same spirit of friendship and fun. While a release date hasn't been announced yet, the project is already generating buzz as one of the most anticipated reunions in recent memory.
In other reunion news, Chris O'Donnell is open to an NCIS: LA reunion on LL Cool J's New York spin-off, and Carl Radke defended Kyle Cooke in an explosive Summer House reunion showdown. But for now, all eyes are on the sandlot—and the dugout.
