HBO Max subscribers have had a stellar 2026, with hits like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon dominating the conversation. But one of the platform's biggest surprises remains The Pitt, the gritty medical drama that has become a cultural phenomenon since its debut in 2025. The show, led by Noah Wyle, returned for its second season in January, and it's been a ratings juggernaut ever since. In fact, HBO was so confident in the series that it renewed The Pitt for a third season before Season 2 even premiered, allowing the team to start production early and keep the show on a consistent yearly schedule.
Now, with filming on Season 3 well underway, fans are hungry for any hints about what's next. While HBO has been tight-lipped about plot details, one of the show's stars, Patrick Ball, recently opened up about the ongoing tension between his character, Dr. Langdon, and Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle). In an exclusive chat with Collider at Televerse, Ball teased that their conflict is far from resolved.
“I think they have a lot to talk about still,” Ball said when asked about Robby's treatment of Langdon in the upcoming season. That simple statement suggests the friction that defined much of Season 2 will continue to simmer in Season 3, keeping viewers on edge.
For those who need a refresher: at the end of Season 1, Robby discovered that Langdon had been diverting patient medications to feed his own addiction. Langdon went to rehab over the hiatus, and he returned in Season 2 ready to work, but Robby remained wary. Their dynamic became one of the most compelling threads of the season, and it seems the writers aren't ready to let it go just yet.
Ball also shared which Season 2 moment has stayed with him. Without hesitation, he pointed to the storyline involving Louie, a recurring character played by Ernest Harden Jr. “The whole series with Louie was really touching,” Ball said. “I think Langdon walking back in the door and having spent 10 months away after rehab, thinking about all the apologies that he needs to make. Think about what he’s going to say to Dana, to Santos, and Robby. And then walking in the door and the first person he sees is Louie, the person he’s wronged more than anybody.”
Louie became a fan favorite over the first two seasons, making his eventual death all the more heartbreaking. Ball praised Harden Jr.'s performance, noting his Emmy nomination. “That was a really awesome series. And I love Ernest. So excited for his nomination,” he said.
