What would you do if your wildest dreams came true—only to have an otherworldly visitor threaten everything you hold dear? That's the tantalizing premise of Terrestrial, the latest comedy from director Steve Pink, known for his work on Hot Tub Time Machine. The film follows a young writer who lands a life-changing book deal, but his success comes with a cosmic catch. Today, we've got your exclusive first look at the trailer.
Written by Samuel Johnson and Connor Diedrich, Terrestrial blends humor, suspense, and science fiction in a way that's both fresh and familiar. The official synopsis teases: "A long-overdue reunion weekend spirals out of control for four college friends. The host, an aspiring science fiction writer on the verge of sudden success, fights to maintain his sense of reality — a struggle which becomes increasingly difficult in the face of otherworldly dangers."
The trailer introduces us to Alan (Jermaine Fowler), a writer who's just scored his first book deal—and maybe a movie adaptation—all while living in a sprawling new home. But when his friends start questioning how he pulled it all off, the tone shifts from celebratory to suspicious. It seems Alan might have had some help, and not the human kind.
Joining Fowler are James Morosini, Pauline Chalamet, Edy Modica, Rob Yang, and Brendan Hunt of Ted Lasso fame. The cast brings a mix of comedic timing and dramatic depth, perfect for a story that juggles paranoia and friendship.
Terrestrial also marks the launch of Aero Films, a new distribution company focused on bold, distinctive cinema. Founder Ryan Pallas shared his excitement: "Our goal with Aero Films is to curate bold, distinctive films from filmmakers with unique perspectives and to connect them with audiences through innovative marketing and distribution. I am thrilled to be launching with Terrestrial as our first film. Steve and the filmmaking team have created an incredible mashup of comedy, suspense, and science fiction that’s unlike anything I’ve seen before."
Director Steve Pink also weighed in on the film's theatrical release, saying, "I’m thrilled Terrestrial is escaping into the world. We made a movie about friendship, paranoia, ambition, and the very unhealthy human instinct to invite your friends into your home and then slowly lose your mind in front of them. Also, it’s funny. Which is either a selling point or a cry for help. Go see it!"
For fans of Pink's previous work, this feels like a return to the irreverent, character-driven comedy that made Hot Tub Time Machine a cult favorite. But Terrestrial also carves its own niche, blending sci-fi paranoia with the awkwardness of reuniting with old friends. It's a combination that could resonate with anyone who's ever wondered if success is worth the cost.
