As The Boys barrels toward its series finale on Prime Video, the body count is rising fast. Homelander (Antony Starr) is basking in his newfound godlike status, indifferent to anyone who doesn't cross him. But the casualties are piling up: A-Train, Firecracker, Black Noir, Soldier Boy, and now Frenchie (Tomer Capone) have all fallen. With only one episode left, the surviving members of The Boys and Starlight (Erin Moriarty) are clinging to hope, while Gen V's Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and Jordan Li (London Thor) fight to stay in the game, and Sage (Susan Heyward) teeters on the edge of shifting loyalties. The finale promises big battles, but also heart and hope—in that signature blood-soaked, twisted way.
Frenchie's Sacrifice: A Gut Punch That Was Always Planned
In a recent interview with Collider, show creator Eric Kripke opened up about the devastating death of Frenchie in Episode 7, titled “The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk.” Kripke knew from the start that this moment had to be brutal. “We wanted to rip the audience’s heart out,” he said. Frenchie’s sacrifice wasn’t just a shock—it was a deliberate narrative choice to underscore the stakes of the final season. The character’s death serves as a turning point, forcing the remaining heroes to confront the cost of their fight against Homelander.
The Gen V Cancellation and Unresolved Stories
Kripke also addressed the cancellation of Gen V, the spin-off that was meant to continue the stories of Marie, Jordan, and other young supes. While he had hoped to keep that universe alive, the cancellation means those characters won’t get a neat conclusion in The Boys. “Maybe there would have been a way through dialogue to hint at something with a little more finality,” Kripke admitted. He noted that the Gen V kids appear in the finale, but their arcs remain open-ended—a deliberate choice made when the spin-off was still active. “You bet on success,” he said, explaining his philosophy of taking risks in television.
Inside Hollywood Jokes and a Supernatural Easter Egg
Episode 7 is packed with sharp Hollywood satire, including a line about “Taylor Sheridan AI” that Kripke says is exactly the kind of inside baseball the show loves. Writer Anslem Richardson, who also pitched Soldier Boy’s affair with Shari Lewis, crafted the joke. Kripke also revealed that a final Supernatural reference featuring Jensen Ackles was added in post-production. “We wanted to put in one last reference,” he said, nodding to the show’s deep connection to his earlier series.
What to Expect From the Series Finale
With Homelander more unhinged than ever and the team fractured, the finale will balance massive action sequences with emotional payoffs. Kripke promises that the ending will honor the show’s dark, irreverent tone while delivering a satisfying conclusion. “It’s a mix of fights and heart,” he said. For fans mourning Frenchie, the final episode may offer some closure—but don’t expect a happy ending. In the world of The Boys, hope comes with a price.
