With Man of Tomorrow just over a year away from hitting theaters, David Corenswet is giving fans a sneak peek at what's next for the Man of Steel. The actor, who made his DC debut in James Gunn's Superman in 2025 and briefly appeared in Supergirl in 2026, is gearing up for the 2027 sequel—and it sounds like his iconic suit is getting a practical upgrade.

In a recent chat with People, Corenswet revealed that the costume has been tweaked for the upcoming adventure. "The suit itself is a little bit different," he said. "They re-engineered it to be slightly more functional and ready for a fight." That's a smart move, especially since the sequel promises plenty of action.

While a full plot synopsis and trailer are still under wraps, we do know that Man of Tomorrow will feature an unlikely alliance between Superman and his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult. The pair will have to join forces to take on the cosmic threat Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger. It's a dynamic that Corenswet is clearly excited to explore. "I enjoyed working with Nicholas," he told People, adding that the film will "delve into that relationship between Superman and Lex a little deeper."

The sequel is also expected to bring back several familiar faces from the DC universe. Edi Gathegi returns as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion reprises his role as Guy Gardner, and Isabela Merced is back as Hawkgirl. Aaron Pierre will make his theatrical DC debut as John Stewart, following his appearance in Lanterns, and Xolo Maridueña will once again suit up as Blue Beetle. For more on how John Stewart's arc is setting up, check out this breakdown of the Lanterns finale.

Costume changes are nothing new for Superman on the big screen. During Zack Snyder's DCEU era, Henry Cavill's suit went through several iterations. In a 2022 interview on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Cavill explained that he chose to wear the classic suit for his cameo in Black Adam because of "the nostalgia attached to the suit." Now, Corenswet is putting his own spin on the look, prioritizing practicality for the battles ahead.

The relationship between Superman and Lex Luthor was a central thread in 2025's Superman, which took place roughly three decades after the hero's arrival on Earth. Lex's deep-seated hatred of the Kryptonian drove him to try to turn the world against him, making their forced partnership in Man of Tomorrow all the more compelling. How their complicated history will evolve when they're forced to work together remains to be seen, but it's sure to be a highlight of the film.

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to soar into theaters on July 9, 2027. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates as they come.
