The boys in blue (and maple syrup) are back, and this time they're invading your living room. Super Troopers 3, the long-awaited threequel that hit theaters last summer, is officially making its way to home entertainment. Starting September 22, you can rent or own the digital version, with physical copies following on November 3.
For those who missed the theatrical run, the film finds the bumbling Vermont state troopers in a fresh predicament. Senior Trooper Thorny (Jay Chandrasekhar, who also directs) is horrified to learn that his beloved sister (Hannah Simone) plans to marry none other than his most incompetent and slovenly subordinate, Farva (Kevin Heffernan). Determined to stop the wedding, Thorny and the gang stumble onto a bigger conspiracy: a dangerous new drug called Canadian Crystal, manufactured by the Buchanans—who also happen to be the wedding planners. Chaos, as you'd expect, ensues.
The Broken Lizard crew—Chandrasekhar, Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske—reunite both in front of and behind the camera, having co-written the script as they did for the previous installments. The film also boasts a stellar supporting cast, including Iqbal Theba and Sakina Jaffrey as Thorny's parents, Nat Faxon as the new captain, Andrew Dismukes as rookie trooper Coy Burns, and Chace Crawford, Jon Rudnitsky, and Lisa Gilroy as the nefarious Buchanans. Returning favorites Brian Cox and Lynda Carter reprise their roles as the retired commander and the governor of Vermont, respectively.
What's in the Special Features?
Both the digital and physical releases come packed with extras that fans won't want to miss. There's a set tour hosted by Paul Soter, giving an inside look at the making of the film. Two deleted scenes are also included: one featuring the troopers pulling a prank at Farva's house, and another where the new captain encounters a fiendishly hot pepper at the wedding.
But the crown jewel is the gag reel, aptly titled "Super Bloopers." We've got an exclusive sneak peek, and let's just say it delivers on the promise of chaos. Watch as the cast flub their lines, get drenched in maple syrup, and have an uncomfortably close encounter with what we sincerely hope is a prosthetic elephant anus. It's the kind of behind-the-scenes mayhem that reminds you why these guys are comedy legends.
If you're a fan of the Broken Lizard brand of humor, this release is a no-brainer. And if you're new to the franchise, Super Troopers 3 is a perfect entry point—it's packed with the same irreverent, buddy-comedy energy that made the original a cult classic.
