Stephen King's literary legacy is so vast that new adaptations are practically a constant. From The Long Walk to The Life of Chuck, audiences have been treated to a steady stream of King-inspired projects. Now, one of his most chilling and iconic tales is getting a fresh take, and the wait is nearly over.
Prime Video has announced that its new television adaptation of Carrie will premiere on October 7. The series is the brainchild of acclaimed filmmaker Mike Flanagan, who serves as writer, creator, and executive producer. Flanagan is no stranger to King's universe, having previously directed Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck. This time, he's tackling King's first published novel, which also became the author's first feature film adaptation—a movie that legendary critic Roger Ebert once called "spellbinding."

Samantha Sloyan (Midnight Mass) portrays Carrie's fanatically controlling mother, Margaret White, while Amber Midthunder (Prey) takes on the role of teacher Miss Desjardin. Matthew Lillard (Five Nights at Freddy's) rounds out the main cast as Principal Grayle.
The supporting ensemble includes Alison Thornton (School Spirits), Josie Totah (The Buccaneers), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), Joel Oulette (Trickster), Siena Agudong (Resident Evil), and Thalia Dudek (The Baby-Sitters Club).

Based on King's groundbreaking debut novel, Carrie follows the bullied and isolated Carrie White. Her miserable life—tormented by her fanatical mother at home and relentlessly bullied by her peers at school—unlocks a terrifying telekinetic power within her. As her rage builds, it eventually reaches a point where she can no longer contain it, leading to a devastating climax.
Carrie was King's big break, and it has been adapted multiple times over the years. The most famous version remains Brian De Palma's 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest horror movies ever made.
