Steven Spielberg's latest sci-fi venture, Disclosure Day, has achieved another box office milestone by surpassing the lifetime domestic gross of Tom Cruise's 2013 film Oblivion. After two weeks in theaters, the movie is closing in on the $100 million mark, a testament to its strong opening weekend performance.

The film, which stars Emily Blunt in a career-highlight role, earned approximately $45 million in its debut weekend and has since accumulated around $95 million domestically. While its third weekend saw a drop to about $8 million, the total is enough to eclipse the $89 million domestic haul of Oblivion, directed by Joseph Kosinski. Interestingly, Kosinski later teamed up with Cruise for the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide in 2022.

The Heaviest Martial Arts Movies Ever Made, Ranked
From the nihilistic violence of The Night Comes for Us to the tragic revenge of Lady Snowblood, these martial arts movies are the heaviest ever made.

Spielberg and Cruise previously collaborated on Minority Report and War of the Worlds, which together earned nearly $1 billion globally. Both films received positive reviews, as has Disclosure Day, which holds an 80% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. The critical consensus praises it as "a humanistic variation on one of Steven Spielberg's most revisited themes," highlighting Blunt's performance. However, audiences have been less enthusiastic, giving the film a B CinemaScore, indicating mixed word-of-mouth.

The movie also features Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, and Colman Domingo, adding depth to its ensemble cast. Despite its box office success, Disclosure Day faces stiff competition ahead, including Christopher Nolan's upcoming The Odyssey, which could limit its long-term earnings. Still, surpassing Oblivion is a notable achievement, especially given that Oblivion itself grossed nearly $290 million worldwide on a $120 million budget and holds a 53% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics calling it "visually striking but thinly scripted."

For fans of sci-fi box office battles, this isn't the first time Spielberg's work has outperformed Cruise's. Earlier, Disclosure Day also surpassed Keanu Reeves' alien remake at the box office, as covered in our previous report. Meanwhile, other genre hits like Australian horror 'Leviticus' are making waves in 2026.

As Disclosure Day approaches the $100 million domestic milestone, all eyes are on whether it can maintain momentum against upcoming releases. For now, Spielberg's film stands as a solid performer, proving that even with mixed audience reactions, a strong opening and critical acclaim can carry a movie far.
