For years, Rick and Morty has reigned as a titan of animated sci-fi, but a worthy challenger has emerged from the same creative DNA. Solar Opposites, co-created by Rick and Morty alum Justin Roiland, has carved its own niche with a zanier, faster-paced take on alien family life. Now, Netflix is giving the series its final bow, officially setting the release date for its sixth and final season.
According to Netflix, Solar Opposites Season 6 will premiere on the streamer on October 13, 2026, in the U.S. and several international territories. The show originally aired on Hulu, but Netflix acquired the streaming rights to the first five seasons last year, and they performed so well that the platform renewed its license and secured the finale.
A Sci-Fi Comedy That Carves Its Own Path
While Rick and Morty follows a cynical genius and his anxious grandson through multiversal chaos, Solar Opposites centers on a team of alien refugees—Korvo, Terry, Yumyulack, and Jesse—who crash-land on Earth and must navigate suburban life while plotting their escape. The show's blend of sharp wit, absurdist humor, and surprisingly heartfelt moments has earned it a devoted fanbase and critical praise.
Though some have dubbed it a Rick and Morty replacement, Solar Opposites stands on its own, offering a more chaotic and family-oriented dynamic. Its sixth season, which originally aired on Hulu in late 2025, was announced as the series' final chapter in March 2025. It brought back the core voice cast, including Dan Stevens, Thomas Middleditch, Mary Mack, and Sean Giambrone, with guest appearances from Tiffany Haddish, Kieran Culkin, Christina Hendricks, Ken Marino, Alfred Molina, and Beck Bennett.
Mixed Reviews, But Fans Hold Out Hope
Season 6 received mixed reviews from critics, earning the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any season. Despite that, the show's passionate fanbase is already clamoring for more. Co-creator Mike McMahan addressed the possibility of a revival during a Collider interview at SDCC 2025, saying, "There are a lot more stories to tell." He added, "I've just seen it happen so many times that things come back in different forms in different places. I would greatly like to do more."
McMahan's optimism isn't unfounded—animated shows have a history of resurrection, and Solar Opposites could easily find new life on a different platform or in a spinoff. For now, though, fans can enjoy the complete saga on Netflix.
