Jeremy Saulnier has a knack for turning everyday spaces into pressure cookers of dread. In Green Room, a punk band's backstage hideout became a blood-soaked trap; in Rebel Ridge, a small-town police station felt like a fortress of corruption. Now, the filmmaker is setting his sights on a place designed to scare you on purpose—and making it even more terrifying.
A24 has unveiled the official teaser for Slayground, Saulnier's new thriller written and directed by him, starring Cory Michael Smith (Gotham). The footage gives us our first real look at the movie, following an earlier security-camera-style teaser that hinted at chaos. This time, we see the story expand beyond the haunted house walls, into a desperate hunt for truth. Slayground hits theaters on January 29, 2027, bringing its Halloween nightmare into the new year.
What Is Slayground About?
The film centers on Smith's character, "Metal Mike" Graves, a scare-actor who wakes up to find his coworkers murdered—and no memory of what happened. With a statewide manhunt closing in, Mike must piece together the night's events while grappling with the horrifying possibility that he might be the killer. It's a double-edged sword: he's both the prime suspect and the only one who can uncover the truth.
Saulnier's signature tension is on full display in the teaser, which plays with the idea that nothing in a haunted attraction is what it seems. Masks hide faces, blood could be fake—or not—and every shadow could be a threat. The setting is a perfect playground for his brand of visceral, unpredictable violence.
Who Else Stars in Slayground?
Smith leads a stacked ensemble that includes Chase Sui Wonders, Sophie Wilde, and Imogen Poots, who reunites with Saulnier after Green Room. Wilde is no stranger to A24 horror, having starred in Talk to Me. The cast also features James Badge Dale, Stephen Root, Young Mazino, and Matty Matheson, adding plenty of talent to the mix.
The movie was previously known as October, a nod to its seasonal setting. Saulnier directs from his own screenplay, with Eli Bush, Richard Peete, and Skei Saulnier producing. Adding to the anticipation, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are composing the score, promising an audio landscape as unsettling as the visuals.
The big question hanging over Slayground is how much Mike's missing memory is protecting him. Surviving a massacre already makes him a target, but digging into the mystery could uncover answers he might wish he'd left buried. With Saulnier at the helm, audiences can expect a thriller that keeps them on edge until the very last frame.

Slayground opens in theaters on January 29, 2027.
