Simone Ashley, who charmed audiences as Kate Sharma in Bridgerton, is trading ballrooms for a much darker setting in her upcoming psychological thriller This Tempting Madness. A new image from the film captures the actress in a state of raw vulnerability, hinting at the intense emotional journey ahead.
In the shot, Ashley's character Mia is wrapped in only a bath towel, her body marked by a scrape near her shoulder and a bruise on her neck. Her gaze is fixed off-camera, conveying a deep unease. The image teases a story where nothing is as it seems, and memory itself becomes the enemy.
The film follows Mia after she wakes from a coma following a fall that nearly killed her. With her memory shattered, she must piece together the events of that night. The man she loved, her husband Jake (Austin Stowell), was the only other person present, but his whereabouts are now unknown. As family and police press for answers, Mia is forced to confront the possibility that her recollections—and her judgment—may be completely unreliable.
Directed by Jennifer E. Montgomery in her feature debut, This Tempting Madness is based on the real experiences of Montgomery's friend, who suffered short-term memory loss after an accident. Montgomery co-wrote the script with Andrew M. Davis, aiming to capture the disorienting feeling of trying to reconstruct a past that feels just out of reach.
Ashley is having a banner year, having already appeared in The Devil Wears Prada 2 and reprised her role in Bridgerton Season 4. She also starred in the rom-com Picture This and the racing drama F1. Now, she's diving into a role that demands a different kind of intensity. The cast also includes Suraj Sharma as Mia's brother, Zenobia Shroff as her mother, Mojean Aria, and Amol Shah.
For fans of psychological thrillers that keep you guessing, this one is shaping up to be a must-watch. If you're intrigued by stories of fractured identity and unreliable narrators, you might also enjoy HBO Max's 'Heretic', which similarly plays with perception and trust.
This Tempting Madness hits select theaters and video-on-demand on June 12. Want to see it early? Check out how to win free tickets to a screening and director Q&A.
