Russell Crowe is back in the crime thriller game, and this time he's bringing some serious Breaking Bad energy. The Oscar winner stars opposite Aaron Paul and Nina Dobrev in The Get Out, a new film that just dropped its first trailer—and it's packed with tension, dark humor, and a whole lot of trouble.
Formerly titled Bear Country, the movie follows Marco Kapak (Crowe), an Albanian-American nightclub owner who's living large. His club is a hit, he's got a gorgeous girlfriend (Teresa Palmer), and he's quietly laundering money for local crime bosses. But when his doctor delivers some bad news about his heart, Marco decides it's time to clean up his act and go legit. Easier said than done.
Enter a pair of masked robbers played by Aaron Paul and Nina Dobrev, who channel their inner Point Break fanatics with Dead Presidents masks and a plan to rob Marco blind. Meanwhile, a mysterious stranger (Luke Evans) wants to buy his club. Marco's search for inner peace is about to get very, very messy.
Directed by Derrick Borte, who previously teamed with Crowe on the sleeper hit road rage thriller Unhinged, The Get Out is adapted from Thomas Perry's 2010 novel Strip. Borte co-wrote the screenplay with Daniel Forte. The film is produced by Nickel City Pictures' Mark Fasano, A Higher Standard's Jeffrey Greenstein, G2 Dispatch's Deborah Glover, and Life & Soul Pictures' Mark Bower, and distributed by Vertical.
For fans of Crowe's recent work, this is just the tip of the iceberg. He's also set to star in the historical drama The Weight with Ethan Hawke this fall, and he'll play Harvard psychology professor Henry Murray in the Netflix film Unabomber—the man who may have influenced Ted Kaczynski's path to extremism. Crowe will also portray Soviet engineer Adolf Tolkachev in Billion Dollar Spy, and he's stepping into Sean Connery's shoes as the immortal Ramirez in Chad Stahelski's Highlander remake, mentoring Henry Cavill's Duncan MacLeod.
