Rosamund Pike has built a career on defying expectations—from her chilling turn in Gone Girl to her scene-stealing work in Saltburn and I Care a Lot. Now, she's adding another feather to her cap with the R-rated satirical comedy Ladies First, which has rocketed to the top of Netflix's streaming charts in May 2026.

Directed by Thea Sharrock, Ladies First is an adaptation of the French film Je ne Suis Pas Un Homme Facile (I Am Not an Easy Man). The story centers on Damien Sachs (Sacha Baron Cohen), an arrogant, high-powered advertising executive and a chronic chauvinist. He enjoys a life of privilege, casual flings, and corporate dominance, routinely undermining his highly qualified female colleague, Alex Fox (Pike). But everything changes after an accident: Damien wakes up in a parallel universe where traditional gender roles and societal power dynamics are completely reversed.

Slanted: The Body Horror Film That Outshines The Substance with Its Racial Commentary
Slanted takes body horror to a new level, targeting racial identity with the same sharpness as The Substance tackled aging. It's a must-watch for fans of socially aware horror.

The cast is stacked with talent. Richard E. Grant plays a mystical homeless man who serves as Damien's guide through this topsy-turvy world. Game of Thrones veteran Charles Dance delivers a surprisingly timid performance as Fred, a submissive, age-conscious executive. Fiona Shaw shines as Felicity, the no-nonsense boss lady running the boardroom. The ensemble brings both sharp comedy and genuine pathos to the gender-flipped premise.

According to FlixPatrol, Ladies First has become an instant streaming sensation, claiming the #1 spot on Netflix. It joins a diverse lineup of popular titles on the platform, including the animated feature Swapped starring Michael B. Jordan, the true-crime drama The Crash, Charlize Theron's Apex, and the action-thriller GOAT. After months of high-octane blockbusters, a comedy at the top of the charts feels like a welcome change of pace.

Beyond its laughs, Ladies First tackles weighty themes: the societal pressures women face daily, the corporate glass ceiling, the objectification of women, and the male gaze. It's a film that has sharply divided audiences. Critics have given it a low 19% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences have awarded it a much warmer 68% rating. That split only adds to the conversation around the movie.
