A Child of My Own, a gripping film based on a bizarre 2009 incident, has rocketed to the #2 spot on the streamer's global non-English movies chart within just four days of its August 13 release. The film has already amassed 5.1 million views and 8.2 million hours of watch time, according to Netflix's TUDUM Top 10 for August 10-16.
The story centers on Eleonor Alejandra Marín Mendoza, a Mexican hospital worker who suffered multiple miscarriages. After her third, she became desperate and concocted a shocking plan: she faked a full-term pregnancy and then stole a newborn from the hospital where she worked, placing the baby in a gift bag and walking out. The real mother, Mayra Aurora Navarro Vega, had no idea her child was being taken.
