Ridley Scott is once again venturing into the terrifying cosmos of the Alien franchise. The legendary director, who launched the iconic sci-fi horror series back in 1979, is now developing a new film that promises to continue the story threads he began with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scott has enlisted Aaron Guzikowski, the creator of the acclaimed sci-fi series Raised by Wolves, to write the screenplay.

Guzikowski is no stranger to Scott's creative vision, having previously collaborated with him on Raised by Wolves, a show that explored themes of artificial intelligence and religious faith in a distant colony. That series, which aired on HBO Max, earned a cult following for its ambitious storytelling and striking visuals. Now, Guzikowski will bring his talents to the Alien universe, crafting a story that is reportedly a direct sequel to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, rather than a follow-up to last year's Alien: Romulus.

Sandra Hüller, fresh off 'Project Hail Mary,' is set to appear in 'Avengers: Doomsday' in a mysterious role. Here's what we know.

The new film is said to center on the diabolical android David, played by Michael Fassbender, who served as the connective tissue between the two previous prequels. While Fassbender is not yet attached to the project, the narrative focus on David suggests his return could be a possibility. Scott, meanwhile, is currently only set to executive produce, with no director attached yet. This marks a shift from his previous hands-on approach, but his involvement as a producer ensures the project will carry his distinctive stamp.

Scott's relationship with the Alien franchise has been complex. After directing the original Alien, he famously did not retain ownership of the property, a decision he has since expressed regret over. He returned to the series in 2012 with Prometheus, a philosophical exploration of humanity's origins and the creation of the Xenomorphs, followed by Alien: Covenant in 2017, which blended philosophical musings with more traditional horror elements. The new film aims to continue that arc, delving deeper into the mythology he established.

Guzikowski's resume extends beyond Raised by Wolves. He wrote the screenplay for Prisoners, the gripping crime drama that marked Denis Villeneuve's English-language debut, and created the television series The Red Road. He also penned scripts for Contraband, a Mark Wahlberg thriller, and Papillon, a remake of the classic prison escape film. Currently, he is working on an animated adaptation of the video game Death Stranding, based on Hideo Kojima's acclaimed title.

While details about the new Alien movie remain scarce, the announcement of Guzikowski's involvement signals that Scott is serious about expanding his vision of the franchise. Fans of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant have long awaited a continuation of those storylines, and this project could finally deliver the answers they've been seeking.

In the meantime, the Alien universe continues to thrive on other fronts. The FX series Alien: Earth, which Scott executive produced, premiered last year and has already been renewed for a second season. Additionally, Alien: Romulus, the 2024 film directed by Fede Álvarez, is still in development for a sequel. This new project, however, will exist alongside those, offering a distinct narrative path.

As the project is still in early development, no release date has been announced. Fans can expect more updates as the script takes shape and casting decisions are made. For now, the prospect of Scott and Guzikowski teaming up again is enough to generate excitement among sci-fi enthusiasts.
