For generations of movie fans, Sylvester Stallone defined what it meant to be a rugged, survival-ready action star. While his career spans decades and includes hits like Tulsa King and The Expendables, it's his early role as John Rambo that cemented his legendary status. Now, Paramount+ is giving subscribers a chance to revisit the character's origins.

As part of its November lineup, Paramount+ is adding several new titles while also saying goodbye to a batch of films and shows. Among the departures are The Ring, The Ring Two, Sleepy Hollow, and She's the Man. But the arrivals are what have action fans buzzing.

Anne Hathaway's 'Mother Mary' Tops HBO Max After Theatrical Flop
Anne Hathaway's 'Mother Mary' has become a streaming sensation, topping HBO Max's global charts after a disappointing theatrical run.

On November 1, the streaming service will debut First Blood, the 1982 film that introduced Rambo to the world. Not stopping there, Paramount+ is also adding Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rambo III on the same day. That means the first three installments of the franchise will be available to stream together, offering a complete arc of Rambo's early adventures.

Notably absent from the lineup are the later entries, Rambo (2008) and Rambo: Last Blood (2019). While those films remain popular, the original trilogy holds a special place in cinema history. The franchise as a whole has grossed over $819 million worldwide, with Rambo: First Blood Part II being the highest-grossing entry at more than $300 million.

A Surprising Fact About 'First Blood'

Despite its reputation as a violent action series, First Blood is notably different from its sequels. In the original film, Rambo doesn't kill a single person. The only death occurs when Deputy Galt (Jack Starrett) falls from a helicopter after Rambo throws a rock in self-defense. This was a deliberate choice by Stallone, who rewrote the screenplay to make Rambo more sympathetic.

The film's source material, David Morrell's 1972 novel, takes a much darker turn. In the book, Rambo goes on a killing spree, eliminating roughly 250 people, including police officers and National Guardsmen. Stallone toned down the violence to ensure audiences would empathize with the character, a decision that helped make First Blood a classic.

For fans of Stallone's work, this streaming addition is a perfect complement to his current series Tulsa King, which has been a hit on Paramount+. If you're looking for more action-packed content, you might also check out another classic joining the platform or explore other action series that deliver.

Mark your calendars for November 1, when First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II, and Rambo III arrive on Paramount+. It's the perfect excuse to revisit one of cinema's most enduring action heroes.
