Netflix is doubling down on its partnership with Oscar Isaac, tapping the Moon Knight star to lead one of its most anticipated upcoming series. The project, an untitled Las Vegas crime thriller, comes from the creative minds behind Billions and Ocean's Thirteen, with none other than Martin Scorsese attached as an executive producer.
Isaac will play Robert “Bobby Red” Redman, the president of the hottest casino on the Strip. But his glittering perch is under siege from enemies eager to drag him back into the neon-lit underworld of Sin City. The series promises a deep dive into the seamy side of Vegas, a setting Scorsese knows well from his 1995 epic Casino and his work on the HBO period drama Boardwalk Empire.
The series is the brainchild of Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the duo behind Showtime's Billions and the films Rounders and Ocean's Thirteen. They will write, showrun, and executive produce. J.C. Chandor, who directed Isaac in Triple Frontier and A Most Violent Year, will executive produce and direct the first two episodes. Additional executive producers include Julie Yorn and Rick Yorn for Expanded Media, Paul Schiff, Beth Schacter, and Isaac himself, with Kerry Orent co-executive producing.
This marks a rare foray into television for Scorsese, who previously executive produced Boardwalk Empire. His involvement adds serious prestige to a project already stacked with talent. For Isaac, it's the latest chapter in a fruitful relationship with Netflix. He first worked with the streamer on the 2019 action thriller Triple Frontier, and last year earned a Golden Globe nomination for his role as Dr. Victor Frankenstein in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein. He's currently starring in and executive producing the second season of the anthology black comedy Beef, alongside frequent collaborator Carey Mulligan.
Isaac and Scorsese have crossed paths before. Isaac starred in Paul Schrader's The Card Counter, which Scorsese executive produced. They're also set to appear together in the upcoming historical drama In the Hand of Dante, where Isaac will play the poet Dante Alighieri and Scorsese, in a rare on-screen acting role, will play his mentor.
For fans of high-stakes crime dramas, this series is shaping up to be a must-watch. It joins a growing slate of Netflix originals that blend star power with gritty storytelling, much like Peacock's neon-soaked crime drama M.I.A. or the streamer's own 28 Years Later duo. With Scorsese's pedigree, Koppelman and Levien's knack for tense, character-driven plots, and Isaac's magnetic screen presence, this untitled Vegas thriller could be the next big binge.
