Prime Video has dropped the first trailer for Ride or Die, an action-comedy series that pairs Oscar winner Octavia Spencer with Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham as an unlikely duo on the run. The show, which premieres all eight episodes on July 15, promises a wild ride through Europe with bullets, banter, and a friendship that literally kills.
The series centers on Debbie Claybourne (Spencer) and Judith Burton (Waddingham), two women who have been inseparable for two decades. Their bond is built on shared meals, parties, and laughter—until Debbie discovers that Judith is actually a highly trained international assassin. That revelation alone would shake any friendship, but things escalate when a hit goes wrong and a figure from Judith's past emerges, forcing the pair to flee across the continent.
The trailer opens with a flashback to their first meeting on a roadside, then jumps to the present where a night out turns into a chaotic escape from armed pursuers. Debbie is thrust into Judith's world of espionage and murder-for-hire, but it turns out she has her own target on her back: her husband stole millions from the mob. Judith must protect her bestie while navigating a web of criminals, law enforcement, and rival assassins.
Waddingham's Judith is a cool, capable killer, while Spencer's Debbie is a fish out of water—she can't even fake a British accent. The trailer shows her learning the ropes of spycraft, including how to jump from a moving train. The dynamic is described as a deadlier Thelma & Louise, with the two women relying on each other as their worlds unravel.
Alongside Spencer and Waddingham, the cast includes Ed Skrein, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker, Jacky Ido, and Sylvia Hoeks. Bill Nighy appears as the mysterious Director, who warns Judith that she must choose between her friend and the organization that employs her. The series is created by Tessa Coates, with showrunner Matt Miller—known for Fox's Lethal Weapon reboot and work on Chuck and Peacemaker—at the helm. Peyton Reed, director of Ant-Man, executive produces alongside Andy and Barbara Muschietti's Double Dream banner.
For fans of buddy comedies and high-octane action, Ride or Die looks to deliver both. The series joins Prime Video's growing slate of original programming, which includes hits like The Boys and the upcoming Fourth Wing adaptation. With its blend of heart and mayhem, this show could be the next binge-worthy thrill ride for streaming audiences.
