Nicole Kidman, star and executive producer of Paramount+'s action-packed series Lioness, is still reeling from the Season 3 finale's jaw-dropping reveal. The Oscar winner, who plays CIA supervisor Kaitlyn Meade, admits she was just as shocked as viewers when she learned that Aaliyah Amrohi (Stephanie Nur) was behind the kidnapping attempts on Joe (Zoe Saldaña).
In a recent interview, Kidman described the moment she read the finale script as a "mic drop" moment. "When we read it, it was a mic drop. It was like, 'What?! Taylor, you are brilliant.' He did not tell us," she said, praising show creator Taylor Sheridan for his storytelling prowess.
The finale saw Joe finally return home after two harrowing kidnapping attempts, only to find her house empty—her husband and daughters had left. The reveal that Aaliyah ordered the kidnappings and insisted her people try again sets up a potentially explosive Season 4, and Kidman is eager to explore the fallout.
"I honestly have no idea. I'm like, 'Okay, what would this do, if we go a Season 4?' I know we'd love to," Kidman said, expressing her desire to continue playing Kaitlyn. "I don't want to leave it there. And also, for me, this is just such a great character to play and there's so much to come, if we get the chance."
Kidman praised Kaitlyn as a "complicated, extraordinary leader" who remains unflappable even in the face of chaos. "She's the most strategic, brilliant strategist, in terms of containing emotion, looking at the consequences, seeing 10 steps ahead," she explained. "She will not waver."
Fans of the show have been drawn to Kaitlyn's cool demeanor, which Kidman attributes to her military background. "She's been trained military-wise because she was a lioness, and she has a military brain," Kidman said. "You don't see women like that a lot on TV. A lot of times, they break down, crying and cracking. That's not Kaitlyn."
Kidman also shared that Sheridan is notoriously tight-lipped about future storylines, but their shared love of horses gives them a unique bond. "He holds his cards close to his chest. I know him very well, so I can get little tidbits from him," she said. "He and I share a passion for horses, so we have a whole different sidebar relationship."
As for the possibility of a Season 4, Kidman is hopeful but realistic. "Then shout that out to him. Taylor, are you listening?" she joked. With the show's intense fanbase and critical acclaim, it seems likely that Zoe Saldaña has also teased what's next for Joe, so the pieces may already be in motion.
In addition to Lioness, Kidman gave an update on Big Little Lies Season 3, which fans have been eagerly awaiting. While she didn't reveal much, she hinted that progress is being made. "We're closer than we've ever been," she said, without giving away specifics.
For now, fans can only speculate about what Sheridan has in store for Kaitlyn and Joe. But if the Season 3 finale is any indication, Season 4 could be the most intense yet. As Kidman put it, "They've only tipped the iceberg of her."
