NBC is closing the book on The Hunting Party. The network has officially canceled the crime drama after just two seasons, making the Season 2 finale that aired on May 7 the series' last episode. The show, which premiered in early 2025, was a sleeper hit that reunited Manifest fan-favorite Melissa Roxburgh with the network, but it ultimately couldn't sustain its momentum.

The Hunting Party had a rocky start. Its first season debuted with a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, but it managed to turn things around enough to earn a Season 2 renewal. The sophomore season expanded to 13 episodes (up from 10 in Season 1), but viewership didn't meet NBC's expectations. The cancellation news broke yesterday evening, confirming that the show's run is over.

Why ABC's 'Stumptown' Remains One of TV's Most Painful Cancellations
ABC's 'Stumptown' had all the makings of a hit—a stellar cast, critical acclaim, and a Season 2 renewal—but the pandemic pulled the plug. Here's why this one-season wonder still haunts fans.

What Was 'The Hunting Party' About?

The series followed former FBI profiler Rebecca "Bex" Henderson (Melissa Roxburgh) as she led an elite task force to recapture dangerous serial killers who escaped from a clandestine prison after a catastrophic explosion. The official synopsis teased that each pursuit uncovered new secrets, drawing Bex into a far-reaching conspiracy that threatened everything she believed.

Over its two-season run, The Hunting Party earned a 18% critics' score and an 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The cast also included Patrick Sabongui as Jacob Hassani, Josh McKenzie as Shane Florence, and Sara Garcia as Jennifer Morales.

NBC has a history of producing long-running hits like the One Chicago franchise and the Law & Order series, but not every show can achieve that level of success. The Hunting Party joins the ranks of other short-lived NBC dramas that couldn't find a lasting audience. For fans of the show, the first two seasons are available to stream on Peacock.
