Nathan Fillion is adding 'comic book co-writer' to his impressive resume. The beloved star of The Rookie and Firefly is launching a brand-new series, Witness Point, this July from Dark Horse Comics. This isn't just a celebrity vanity project; it's a fully-formed crime procedural with a uniquely twisted premise.

The story is set in Baraboo, Wisconsin—a seemingly friendly and quiet town. However, its peaceful facade is shattered with the gruesome discovery of a dismembered body, revealing a shocking truth: the town is a secret dumping ground for the federal Witness Protection Program. This dark secret forces the local sheriff, Carter Calhoon, and his deputy, Priya Khabrani, into an unlikely partnership to solve a murder before it ruins the town's beloved Harvest Festival.

Fillion's Creative Vision

In an exclusive statement, Fillion shared his enthusiasm for the project. He was drawn into the world by co-writer Heath Corson and knew it was perfect for the comic book medium. He also praised the work of illustrator Soo Lee, whose recent credits include ThunderCats: Cheetara and Disney Villains: Maleficent. "Working with Soo... to bring this engaging story to life has been a thrill," Fillion said. "I love this project and can't wait for readers to experience it."

Co-writer Heath Corson highlighted Fillion's storytelling prowess, noting he brings his "quick wit, iconic character, and bottomless humanity" to the page. Artist Soo Lee emphasized that Witness Point subverts expectations. "It isn't your typical crime story," Lee said, explaining that the unusual setting and characters inspired a unique visual style to match the offbeat tone.

A Busy Summer for the Star

This comic book launch is just one part of a packed schedule for Fillion. Fans are also eagerly awaiting his return to the DC Universe this summer in the HBO series Lanterns, where he will reprise his role as Green Lantern Guy Gardner. Described as a cosmic take on True Detective, the series will follow Gardner and other Lanterns investigating a mystery on Earth. It's currently slated for an August release.

Fillion's ability to jump between genres—from the sci-fi of Firefly to the network procedural of The Rookie and now to comic book crime—showcases his versatile appeal. Witness Point allows him to explore narrative storytelling in a new format, blending small-town charm with dark, procedural thrills. If you're a fan of gripping mysteries with a unique hook, this series is one to watch.
