In the latest episode of MobLand, the Harrigan family's world gets even more complicated. Tom Hardy's fixer, Harry Da Souza, is juggling multiple threats, but the most personal one comes from his own wife, Jan (Joanne Froggatt), who has unknowingly fallen for a spy. That spy is Donnie (Alex Fine), Kat McAllister's operative, who was sent to infiltrate Jan's life. When Jan discovers the truth, she doesn't hesitate—she shoots Donnie point-blank, leaving him to bleed out on his apartment floor.

We caught up with Alex Fine to talk about Donnie's arc, his true loyalties, and why he's surprisingly satisfied with how his character met his end.

The funniest shows often make you squirm. Here are the best dark comedies ever, ranked for their brilliant, uncomfortable humor.

Donnie's Fate Is Sealed

Fine confirms that Donnie is indeed dead, and there's no coming back. "No, he's very much dead," he says with a laugh. The actor reveals that even he didn't know where his character was headed after the first season. "Jez Butterworth kept telling me, 'Don't take another job. Your character goes somewhere.' Then he texted me that I had a love interest, and I immediately thought, 'If it's Jan, I'm getting murdered.'"

That instinct proved correct, but the journey was still a thrilling mystery. "Every week, getting the new script was pretty fun," Fine admits, "because I didn't know when or by whom I'd be killed."

Donnie's Role: Kat's Fixer

Fine sees Donnie as a mirror to Harry—but for Kat. "I felt like Donnie was Kat McAllister's Harry," he explains. "She sent me to honey trap Jan, and I was more of a fixer for her than a brute. I'd be more intimidated by her than by Frankie Cooper, even though he's a loose cannon."

When asked if there was any genuine connection between Donnie and Jan, Fine is blunt: "No. There's no authenticity." He theorizes that Donnie might be a government agent, given how seamlessly he adapts to different personas. "One season I'm looking like Eminem in a garage, the next I'm clean-cut and quoting Raymond Carver. That takes serious training."

The Final Scene: A Quick, Painless Death

Fine praises the decision to have Jan shoot Donnie without a lengthy monologue. "We went over a few ways it could happen, but the best one was super quick," he says. "I'm very happy she's the one who killed me because it was quick and painless. If it had been Tom Hardy's character, I would have had a rough, rough go."

He also credits Joanne Froggatt for making the scene memorable. "She was awesome to work with, and I'm very happy she got to kill me," Fine says. "It was fun."

As for what's next for the Harrigans, Fine teases that Kat's threat is far from over. "She's underestimated by a lot of people," he warns. "But Donnie's death is just the beginning."
