Netflix's latest sports comedy, The Hawk, is swinging for the fences, aiming to join the ranks of golf classics like Caddyshack and Happy Gilmore. With Will Ferrell leading the charge as Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins—a washed-up golfer clinging to his glory days—the series has all the ingredients for a hole-in-one. Ferrell's character is joined by his son Lance (Jimmy Tatro), who's carving his own path, and his longtime rival Golden Fisk (Luke Wilson), who's still dominating the greens. When Lonnie hires Sam (Fortune Feimster), a clueless caddy with zero golf knowledge, it might just be the shake-up he needs to find his swing again. The cast also includes SNL alums Molly Shannon and Chris Parnell.
In a recent interview, Feimster, Tatro, and Wilson opened up about what lured them to the project, their characters' roles in Lonnie's journey, and the possibility of a crossover with Owen Wilson's Apple TV+ golf comedy, Stick. The conversation took a playful turn when the idea of a crossover between the two streaming golf series came up.
Luke Wilson on Golf Comedy Coincidence with Brother Owen
Wilson couldn't help but chuckle at the timing: both he and his brother Owen ended up in golf comedies simultaneously. "It is funny that we both somehow wound up on golf shows at the exact same time," he said. Owen stars in Stick on Apple TV+, which has already been renewed for a second season. Luke noted that Owen has gotten serious about golf since taking the role, taking lessons and improving his game. When asked if he joined The Hawk to one-up his brother, Wilson laughed it off, recalling how his dad and brother Andrew were the golfers in the family, while Owen was always a natural putter.
The interview quickly turned to the idea of a crossover between The Hawk and Stick. Feimster's eyes lit up, and Wilson agreed, "Yeah, that's a good idea." While no official plans exist, fans of both shows can dream of a streaming universe where Ferrell's Hawk and Owen Wilson's character from Stick face off—perhaps with Luke's Golden Fisk caught in the middle. For now, Stick continues to dominate Apple TV+, as seen in Anya Taylor-Joy's Sci-Fi Hit 'The Gorge' Still Dominates Apple TV+ in July 2026.
What Drew the Cast to 'The Hawk'
For Tatro, the decision was a no-brainer. "They were like, 'Do you want to play Will's son in this golf show?' And it was pretty much a yes immediately," he said. Feimster echoed the sentiment: "They said, 'Do you want to be Will's caddy in a golf show?' And I was like, 'Of course.'" Wilson, meanwhile, was watching golf in a dark room when the offer came in, and he couldn't resist.
Characters' Impact on Lonnie's Journey
Each character plays a unique role in helping Lonnie become a better person and golfer. Wilson joked that his character Golden Fisk, as a rival, probably isn't the one to inspire growth. Tatro noted that Lance forces Lonnie to examine his selfishness, while Feimster's Sam brings a nonchalant attitude that helps Lonnie think beyond himself. "My character just has this nonchalant attitude about a lot of things that I think he sort of adapts, but has to learn to think beyond himself, not be so selfish," Feimster explained.
As for a potential second season, the cast has ideas. Feimster and Tatro speculated on what their characters might be up to, though they kept details under wraps. With the show's blend of heart and humor, The Hawk is poised to become a fan favorite on Netflix. And if a crossover with Stick ever materializes, it could be the streaming event of the year—especially for fans of Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson Team Up for High-Octane Thriller 'Runner'.
