Nearly 50 years after audiences first journeyed to a galaxy far, far away, the machines, costumes, and props that defined that universe still hold a powerful allure. A single landspeeder can transport fans back to a desert chase, a space battle, or a Jedi's darkest moment. Now, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is bringing that history together in a major new exhibition.

In celebration of May the Fourth, the museum revealed details about Star Wars in Motion, its inaugural Cinema exhibition. Opening on September 22, 2026, this will be one of more than 30 installations available when the museum officially welcomes visitors. The exhibition draws from the museum's founding collection, exploring visual storytelling across human culture—from ancient sculptures to Renaissance paintings, photography, comics, and modern cinema.

International Thrillers That Are Perfect From Start to Finish
From the shocking reverse narrative of Irréversible to the gut-wrenching injustice of The Hunt, these international thrillers are flawless from start to finish.

Star Wars in Motion focuses specifically on the designs of vehicles, props, costumes, and illustrations from the first six films in George Lucas's saga—the ones he worked on and endorsed. That means treasures from The Phantom Menace all the way through Return of the Jedi. Yippee!

What Will Be Featured in the Exhibition?

The exhibition will showcase high-speed racers, massive transport vehicles, and flying vessels from the films. Highlights include Luke's Landspeeder from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and the first physical build of General Grievous's Wheel Bike from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. It's a reminder that Star Wars has always been at its best when its vehicles feel like they could either save your life or absolutely ruin your insurance. Imagine the premiums on a Naboo starcruiser? Thank the maker we don't have to worry about that.

The timing aligns perfectly with the approaching 50th anniversary of Star Wars. Almost five decades later, Lucas's creation remains one of the most influential cinematic worlds ever made. The galaxy has expanded through sequels, prequels, animation, television, books, games, and theme park lands, but the original designs still look extremely "wizard." The franchise also returns to theaters soon with Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.
