Lara Croft has conquered tombs on screen, in video games, and even in live-action films, but her next big quest is coming to your tabletop. Tomb Raider: Crypt of Chronos, a new board game from developer Iconiq Studio, has officially funded on Kickstarter and is set to ship to backers in late summer 2026, with deliveries continuing into the fall. It's a fresh way for fans to step into the boots of the iconic adventurer—no controller required.

The game's synopsis sends Lara to "the elusive island of Kairos in search of an artifact that holds the reins of time." Designed as a single-player experience, Crypt of Chronos is split into roughly one-hour adventures, plus an Island Campaign mode that takes about three hours to complete. Classic Tomb Raider fans can expect plenty of complex puzzle solving, staying true to the franchise's roots.

Pacific Rim Storms Into Vudu's Top 10 in July 2026, Proving Kaiju Mecha Still Rules
Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, starring Idris Elba and Charlie Day, has stormed back into Vudu's Top 10 in July 2026, 13 years after its original release.

This board game is just one piece of a much larger Tomb Raider revival. The original 1996 game is getting a ground-up remake in Unreal Engine 5, titled Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which launches on next-generation consoles and PC on February 12, 2027. Meanwhile, a live-action series for Prime Video starring Sophie Turner as Lara Croft is back in production after a brief pause due to a minor injury Turner suffered during a stunt in March. The show is written and developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who recently starred opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Turner joins a legacy of actors who have portrayed Lara Croft, including Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. She'll be joined in the Prime Video series by Jason Isaacs (known for Harry Potter and The White Lotus) and sci-fi icon Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Avatar). Additional cast includes Celia Imrie, Paterson Joseph, Bill Paterson, Sasha Luss, and Jack Bannon.

For fans who can't wait for the board game or the series, there are plenty of other ways to get their Lara fix. The franchise's enduring popularity has inspired everything from video game remakes to comic book continuations and even a podcast network expansion. The board game's Kickstarter success proves that the appetite for tactile, solo adventures in Lara's world is stronger than ever.

Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the franchise, Tomb Raider: Crypt of Chronos offers a unique way to experience the thrill of discovery and danger. With its modular adventure structure and focus on puzzles, it's designed to capture the essence of the classic games while offering something fresh for tabletop enthusiasts.
