The Ice Age herd is officially thawing out for another big-screen adventure. Ice Age: Boiling Point, the sixth mainline installment in the blockbuster animated series, is set to hit theaters on February 5 — and it's bringing a familiar musical maestro along for the ride.
Collider can exclusively confirm that composer Batu Sener will return to score the film. Sener previously handled the music for the Disney+ spin-off The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild and the short-form series Ice Age: Scrat Tales, so he's no stranger to the prehistoric playground. Recording is already underway at the Fox scoring stage, pushing the project one step closer to completion.
A Franchise That Refuses to Go Extinct
When Blue Sky Studios shut its doors in 2021, many assumed the Ice Age saga had melted for good. But the franchise — which has raked in over $3 billion worldwide — is proving resilient. Boiling Point marks the first time Manny, Sid, Diego, and the rest of the gang have appeared on the big screen in more than ten years, and 20th Century Studios has reassembled the core voice cast: Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, and Simon Pegg are all back in the fold.
Director John C. Donkin, who helmed Buck Wild, is also returning to steer the ship through this post-Blue Sky era. His partnership with Sener continues a musical lineage that stretches back to the earlier films — Sener is a protégé of John Powell, who composed the scores for Ice Age: The Meltdown through Continental Drift.
Sener's Star Is on the Rise
Beyond his Ice Age work, Sener has been building an impressive résumé. He earned a lead credit on the 2024 Robbie Williams biopic Better Man and also scored the feature adaptation of Harold and the Purple Crayon. His additional credits include work on both Wicked films, the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. With Boiling Point, he's poised to bring a sweeping, adventurous sound to the next chapter of the saga.
What's Next for the Herd?
Plot details for Boiling Point remain under wraps, but the story picks up after the events of 2016's Ice Age: Collision Course, which ended with the herd diverting an asteroid and Peaches, Manny and Ellie's daughter, tying the knot. The new film promises a wild journey featuring dinosaurs, lava, and exploration into the farthest reaches of the Lost World. Scrat will, of course, be back in pursuit of his beloved acorn — and the first teaser hinted at a baby Scrat and a monstrous Jurassic Scrat as well.
Fans can expect more announcements, including a full trailer and new cast members, as the February release date approaches. For now, the confirmation of Sener's involvement and the start of scoring signal that Ice Age: Boiling Point is heating up nicely.
Stay tuned for more updates on this animated comeback as we get closer to the film's theatrical debut.
