When it comes to modern PlayStation icons, few franchises carry the weight of God of War. The 2018 soft reboot reinvented Kratos, swapping Greek vengeance for Norse fatherhood, and became a critical and commercial juggernaut. But none of that would exist without the original Greek trilogy that introduced the Ghost of Sparta to the world—and now, the voice behind the modern Kratos is celebrating the upcoming remake of those classics.

During a Fan Expo Boston panel moderated by Collider's Steve Weintraub, Christopher Judge opened up about the announced God of War Greek trilogy remake, which will see original Kratos actor TC Carson reprise his role. Judge, who took over the character in 2018, expressed overwhelming gratitude for Carson's foundational work, noting that the remake is a rare example of a studio honoring its roots.

Prime Video's YA Blueprint: How 'Sterling Point' Fits the Streamer's Winning Formula
Prime Video's 'Sterling Point' is the latest YA hit, following the streamer's proven formula of seaside settings, romance, and family secrets.

"I'm glad it worked out, and the thing I'm glad, too, is that TC isn't forgotten because where we are now is because of TC Carson and how magnificent he is," Judge said. "And I'm so happy that they're remastering the original games, and then that will find a new audience, and I just think it's wonderful."

The original God of War launched on PS2 in 2005, sending Kratos on a bloody quest against Ares. The trilogy escalated into an all-out war with Olympus, culminating in the epic God of War III. These games defined the franchise's brutal combat and gritty mythology, and they remain essential to understanding Kratos' evolution into the father figure we meet in the Norse saga.

Judge's praise extends beyond Carson to the studio itself. He sees the remake as proof that Santa Monica Studio, led by Cory Barlog, genuinely respects its fanbase—something he believes is increasingly rare in the industry. "I mean, that is a testament to not only Cory, but all of Sony Santa Monica and their investment in this. They actually respect the fans. Like, it's not that hard of a thing to do," he said.

He contrasted this approach with other major companies that have alienated players through price hikes, content gating, or digital-only releases. For Judge, Santa Monica's willingness to revisit the past and give fans what they want—while also pushing forward with new projects like God of War Laufey—sets a standard for how big franchises should treat their communities.

The remake was announced in February as part of the series' 20th anniversary, though details remain scarce. Fans are speculating whether it will stick to the classic hack-and-slash style or incorporate modern mechanics. Either way, Judge is confident that the studio's commitment to Carson and the original games will resonate with both longtime players and newcomers.

While waiting for the trilogy remake, fans can look forward to God of War Laufey, a spin-off starring Deborah Ann Woll as Kratos' late wife Faye, with Judge reprising his role. It's set to hit PS5 on February 16, 2027. For more on the franchise's future, check out our coverage of Taylor Sheridan's Lioness season 3 or House of the Dragon's latest twist.

Judge's comments highlight a growing conversation about fan respect in gaming. As studios chase trends and monetization, Santa Monica's decision to honor its past—and the actor who helped build it—stands out as a beacon of good faith. For Kratos fans, the remake can't come soon enough.
