CBS is betting big on spooky laughs this fall, and it's not just because Ghosts continues to haunt the ratings. The network is clearing a path for a brand-new vampire sitcom called Eternally Yours, and the showrunners behind both series are already dreaming up ways to connect the two worlds.
In an exclusive interview, Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman — affectionately known as The Joes — opened up about the ambitious plan to launch Eternally Yours while keeping Ghosts alive and well. The new series, which follows a married vampire couple struggling to accept their daughter's human boyfriend, will take over Ghosts' usual Thursday time slot this fall. But don't worry, Woodstone B&B fans: Ghosts isn't going anywhere.
A Spooky Schedule Shuffle
Season 6 of Ghosts will kick off with an hour-long Halloween special this fall, followed by a Christmas special in December. The remaining 18 episodes will air in 2027, a shift that has some fans scratching their heads. But Wiseman insists it's not as drastic as it sounds. “We're premiering in late October, which is only about two weeks later than we normally would,” he explained. “By the time the new year comes around, we will have aired four episodes.”
The scheduling change is part of CBS's strategy to rebuild its comedy slate. With only three guaranteed hits — Ghosts, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, and Elsbeth — the network is giving Eternally Yours the biggest possible launch pad. Port noted, “They wanted to launch Eternally Yours after Georgie & Mandy, which does well, especially the night of. It gets a lot of live viewers.”
Double Duty in Montreal
Port and Wiseman are already back at work on Ghosts Season 6, with the writers' room opening this week. Next week, they'll start the Eternally Yours writers' room. Both shows are filming in Montreal, and production is running concurrently. “We're still doing 22 episodes,” Port confirmed. “Unlike some shows that are coming out mid-season, we're still doing a full 22 order.” The two holiday specials count as four episodes toward that total.
For fans worried about a dip in quality, Wiseman offered reassurance: “It's not that drastically different than it has been in the past.”
Crossover Potential: Vampires at Woodstone?
When asked about the possibility of a crossover between the two shows, both showrunners lit up. Eternally Yours stars Allegra Edwards, who Ghosts fans will recognize as Pete's island girlfriend Donna. Rose Abdoo, who plays producer Paula on Ghosts and returns in the Season 5 finale, has also been cast as a series regular on the new sitcom.
“It's definitely a fun idea,” Wiseman said. “Obviously, we love the cast, and it would be really fun.” Port added, “I think it might be more likely to see some vampires coming by Woodstone, but either way, it would be very interesting.” While nothing is confirmed, the door is wide open for a spooky crossover event that could unite the living, the dead, and the undead.
