The psychological thriller genre has gifted us with some of the most mind-bending masterpieces in cinema history. But for every Black Swan or Gone Girl, there's a train wreck that makes you question your life choices. Over the last 25 years, a handful of these films have been so universally panned that they've earned a spot among the worst movies of the 21st century. Whether they're horror hybrids, action wannabes, or pure psychological puzzles that fail to engage, these ten films are unforgettable—for all the wrong reasons.

10. 'Dark Crimes' (2016)

Jim Carrey has proven he can do drama brilliantly—just look at Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. But Dark Crimes is a different beast entirely. Despite Carrey's committed performance, the film around him is a mess. It holds a rare 0% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it's well-deserved. Based on the true story of convicted murderer Krystian Bala, the movie somehow makes a compelling real-life case both incomprehensibly messy and painfully dull. Add in its gratuitous violence toward women, and you've got a thriller that's impossible to recommend.

9. 'I Know Who Killed Me' (2007)

Lindsay Lohan's career has seen its ups and downs, but I Know Who Killed Me was a low point. Designed to transition her into darker roles, this psychological thriller instead drove her career further into the ground. The plot is ludicrously bizarre and convoluted, and the torture-porn elements don't help. Any camp value is squandered in favor of a puzzle no one wants to solve.

8. 'Getaway' (2013)

Fast doesn't always mean fun. Getaway stars Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez, but even they can't save this box-office disaster. The film speeds through its narrative at a breakneck pace, leaving no room for character development or coherent action. It's 90 minutes of pure boredom, wasting Hawke's talent on a paper-thin plot.

7. 'Ticker' (2001)

Albert Pyun was notorious for low-budget B-movies, and Ticker is a perfect example. Starring Steven Seagal, Tom Sizemore, Nas, and Dennis Hopper, this film feels painfully cheap. Incoherently stitched together, it's not even entertaining enough to be a so-bad-it's-good classic.

6. 'The Open House' (2018)

Netflix has produced some gems, but The Open House isn't one of them. This horror thriller is neither thrilling nor scary, instead serving as a waste of time packed with clichés. Pointless red herrings and predictable twists make it one of the worst ways to spend 94 minutes.

5. 'Wounds' (2019)

Babak Anvari's Wounds tries to blend psychological horror with supernatural elements, but it falls flat. Despite a strong cast including Armie Hammer and Dakota Johnson, the film is muddled and unsatisfying. It's a slow burn that never ignites.

4. 'The Fanatic' (2019)

John Travolta's The Fanatic is a cringe-worthy mess. Directed by Fred Durst, this film about an obsessive fan is laughably bad. Travolta's over-the-top performance and the ridiculous script make it a must-avoid for thriller fans.

3. 'Slender Man' (2018)

Based on the internet meme, Slender Man was doomed from the start. The film fails to capture any of the creepiness of its source material, instead delivering a dull, uninspired horror-thriller. It's a waste of a potentially intriguing concept.

2. 'Hurry Up Tomorrow' (2024)

This recent release has already earned a spot among the worst. Hurry Up Tomorrow tries to be a mind-bending thriller but ends up as a confusing, pretentious mess. Critics have panned it for its incoherent plot and lack of tension.

1. 'The Room' (2003)

While not strictly a psychological thriller, The Room is often included in lists of the worst films ever made. Tommy Wiseau's bizarre masterpiece is so bad it's become a cult classic, but as a thriller, it fails on every level. From its nonsensical dialogue to its baffling plot, it's the ultimate example of a film that's unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.
