With the Season 4 finale of From just weeks away, MGM+'s horror hit is inching closer to unraveling its deepest secrets. The Man in Yellow (Douglas E. Hughes) is clearly threatened by how close Jade (David Alpay) and Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) are getting to the truth—his confrontation with Tabitha in Episode 8 proves that. But the latest twist might have just given Boyd (Harold Perrineau) and the survivors a surprising advantage.
In an exclusive interview, Pegah Ghafoori, who plays Fatima, opened up about the strange psychic connection her character now shares with the resurrected Smiley Creature (Jamie McGuire). This bond, born from Fatima's impossible pregnancy last season, could be the key to turning the tide against the town's deadliest threats.
Fatima's Body Horror and the Toll of Her Power
Fatima's pregnancy and postpartum arc have been a masterclass in body horror, and Ghafoori explained how she prepared for the grueling role. "The things that Fatima and her body go through on this show are nothing short of horrific," she said. To protect herself, she focuses on physical fitness, vocal warm-ups, and relying on the show's stunt and intimacy coordinators. "Understanding exactly what is happening to her body and prepping yourself mentally and physically to go as far as it needs to go has helped a lot."
The strange, veiny dark lines that now appear on Fatima's stomach are entirely practical—hand-drawn each morning by the special effects makeup team. "They like to be perfect about it," Ghafoori noted, adding that the process takes about 30 minutes as the lines grow over time.
How Fatima Plans to Use Her Psychic Edge
Ghafoori described Fatima's psychic tether to Smiley as "ever-changing" and far stronger than anyone else in town realizes. "She doesn't even know at this point, but definitely way more than anyone else in town, and way more than she ever thought she would be able to," she said. Whether Smiley was always part of her or the pregnancy altered her body chemistry, Fatima is determined to use this connection to help the townspeople—even if it comes at a personal cost.
"Fatima is of the mindset that 'If things are going to happen to me, then I will have a say in what ends up happening because of it,'" Ghafoori revealed. This determination suggests she'll push herself to the limit, despite the physical toll.
Who Understands Fatima's Struggle Best?
In Episode 8, Fatima has an emotional conversation with her husband Ellis, acknowledging that he can never fully grasp her experience. But Ghafoori pointed to another character who might: Sara. "I think one of our original sightings of someone's body being taken advantage of is Sara," she said. "Sara has lost someone very dear to her, and she wasn't able to help, and I think Fatima saw that." This shared trauma of losing control over one's own body creates a unique bond between the two women.
As From barrels toward its Season 4 finale, Fatima's psychic edge could be the wild card that shifts the balance of power. But with the Man in Yellow closing in and her health deteriorating, the question remains: how far is she willing to go—and what will be left of her when it's over?
