The revival has been a critical and commercial triumph, with Collider's Nate Richard giving Season 14 a 9/10 and praising it as "the rare TV revival where it never feels like it's playing it too safely." Showrunner Saladin Patterson—who previously helmed The Wonder Years reboot and worked on Psych, Dave, and The Big Bang Theory—has brought a fresh yet faithful vision to Arlen, honoring the original characters while acknowledging how times have changed both in Texas and the real world.
Almost all the main cast returns for Season 15, though it marks the first season without Johnny Hardwick (Dale) and Jonathan Joss (John Redcorn), who passed away in 2023 and 2025 respectively. Hardwick recorded some episodes for Season 14, and veteran voice actor Toby Huss helped cover the remaining parts.
