Disney XD may have taken a backseat to Disney+ in recent years, but the cable channel is gearing up for a major comeback with a brand-new animated series that blends soccer with sorcery. Dragon Striker is set to premiere on June 9, and we've got an exclusive first look at the show's vibrant world and scrappy team of superpowered players.

Set at the elite Kal Asterock academy, Dragon Striker is a place where magic and sports collide in explosive competition. Students with extraordinary abilities train to become champions, but a humble farm boy named Key might just have the most potential of all. After awakening incredible powers, he learns he could be the legendary Dragon Striker—a player destined for greatness. He joins forces with a talented goalkeeper named Ssyelle and a ragtag group of underdogs determined to take on the school's top teams.

Anime Influence and Stellar Cast

The series is heavily inspired by Japanese anime, and that influence is evident in both the art style and the creative team. Kevin Penkin, known for his acclaimed scores on Made in Abyss, The Rising of Shield Hero, and The Apothecary Diaries, composed the music. The voice cast includes Homeland alum Akshay Kumar as Key and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 actress Rebecca LaChance as Ssyelle, alongside Yeukayi Ushe, Waylon Jacobs, and Evanna Lynch.

Created by animation veterans Sylvain Dos Santos and Charles Lefebvre, with head writer Paul McKeown (who worked on the original Space Jam), the series is produced by La Chouette Compagnie in association with Disney Television Animation.

All 11 episodes of Dragon Striker will premiere on Disney XD on June 9, followed by streaming on Disney+ and Hulu the next day. For more exclusive sneak peeks, stay tuned to ShowtimeSpot.
