It's Pride Month in the Land of Ooo, and the greatest romance in cartoon history is getting a fresh chapter. Oni Press, in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, is releasing the first-ever Adventure Time Pride Special, centered on the beloved couple Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen. Titled PB & Marcy's Infinite Mixtape #1, this 40-page comic finds the duo attempting to create the ultimate monument to their love: a perfect, never-before-heard mixtape that captures every moment of their journey together. Collider has an exclusive extended preview of the issue, including ten pages and four unique covers.
The covers, each with a wildly different style, reimagine the couple in forms ranging from comic-book vibrant to abstract and almost unrecognizable. Yet they all convey three core themes: the enduring love of these characters, the central role of music in their lives, and the rough patch they hit while revisiting their shared history. The story follows the Scream Queens as their new mixtape forces them to confront the fact that their fondest memories aren't as rosy as they remember. The interior art comes from Evengia Vereli, with covers by Chan, Jaki King, and Mary Ainza.
Inside the pages, Bonnie and Marcy aren't just remembering past moments—they're reliving them in real time. The snippet begins in their room, where they're using their love as inspiration to create sweet music for the Pride Ooopen Mic Battle of the Bands. But despite their best efforts, they can't come up with new songs. Princess Bubblegum even wonders if being so happy together has killed their creative spark. That's when she stumbles upon an unfinished mixtape she never gave Marceline, filled with tracks based on specific memories—like their disastrous trip to a diner, which Marcy calls the "worst date of all time," and a campaign for a special date inspired by Marcy's favorite Victorian novella.
Venturing through these little moments, both mundane and fantastical, sparks bickering between the two lovebirds as they realize the problems and differences in how fondly they initially recalled their time together. This ultimately forces them to question if they're just out of tune. The comic was written by Rosie Knight, a longtime Adventure Time fan and journalist with over 2,500 bylines, who also co-hosts the pop culture podcast X-Ray Vision. Knight has previously written Godzilla Rivals: Vs. Battra and the upcoming Godzilla Monster Island Summer Camp. Vereli, who previously drew a cover for a reprint of Adventure Time: The Bubbline College Special #1, brings her adorable art to this more expansive story.
In a statement, Knight expressed how important Adventure Time was to her and how honored she was to give one of the most groundbreaking love stories in cartoons a strange, surreal twist befitting the original show. "I grew up on Adventure Time, and journeying in the Land of Ooo with BMO, Finn, Jake, Marcy & PB got me through a lot of tough times with some of my most precious people," she said. "So I'm honored to get to team up with the unbelievably talented Evgenia to add our own very gay and very strange twist on everyone's favorite healing situationship. Get ready to laugh, cry, and meet two new terrifying villains inspired by one of the most legendary Adventure Time foes ever."
