The Evil Dead franchise is back and bloodier than ever with Evil Dead Burn, a new chapter that delivers brutal kills, dark comedy, and a jaw-dropping post-credits scene that has fans buzzing. Director Sébastien Vanicek recently sat down to discuss the film's most surprising moments, including the return of a fan-favorite villain and the subtle presence of a certain chin-quipped hero.

Alyssa Sutherland's Ellie Bixler Rises Again

In a move that caught even diehard fans off guard, the post-credits sequence of Evil Dead Burn resurrects Ellie Bixler, the terrifying Deadite matriarch from Evil Dead Rise, once again played by Alyssa Sutherland. Vanicek confirmed that the studio requested the cameo, and he was happy to oblige. "I don't know what they will do in the future," he said. "I did my own piece and, of course, it's a studio movie, and they asked for something. I was glad to put it in my movie, but that's their story." This resurrection opens the door for Ellie to become a recurring antagonist, much like a certain horror icon who keeps coming back for more.

Bruce Campbell's Hidden Cameos

But Ellie isn't the only familiar face—or rather, photo—in Evil Dead Burn. Vanicek officially confirmed that Bruce Campbell appears in two photographs scattered throughout the film: a Polaroid and a framed picture by the staircase. The implication is that his character could be the family's estranged grandfather, whose research into the Necronomicon suggests a direct link to Ash Williams himself. "That's something that fans will work on, and there will be Wikipedia things and connections, and they will do their work," Vanicek teased, leaving the theory open for speculation.

What's Next for the Franchise?

With Evil Dead Burn now in theaters, all eyes are on the next installment, Evil Dead Wrath, which is already deep in development. Directed by Francis Galluppi, this seventh film will be a prequel set in 1972, before the events of Sam Raimi's original Evil Dead. That timeline makes it unlikely for Ellie or Ash to appear, but as any fan knows, the Evil Dead series loves a good time-travel twist. Who knows what groovy surprises await?
