Prime Video's Every Year After has quickly become a fan-favorite romance adaptation, but the story is far from over. Showrunner Amy B. Harris and author Carley Fortune recently sat down to discuss the show's direction beyond Season 1, revealing a five-season plan that promises to explore the ensemble cast in deeper, more complex ways.

Harris, known for her work on The Sex Lives of College Girls, emphasized that the show's love story is just beginning. "Our love story this season was Percy and Sam, but I always like to say, this season was, 'Will they, won't they?' and next season will be, 'How will they?'" she explained. "The happy ending doesn't mean it ends, it's just the beginning of something else that can be equally as exciting and challenging."

House of the Dragon Season 3 Review: Epic Battles and a Return to King's Landing
House of the Dragon Season 3 finally delivers on its promise of dragon-filled warfare, bringing the action back to King's Landing and giving Rhaenyra the spotlight she deserves.

The series, based on Fortune's novels Every Summer After and One Golden Summer, follows Percy Fraser (Sadie Soverall) as she returns to Barry's Bay after a death in the Florek family. The season finale left viewers on a cliffhanger: Percy decides to reconcile with Sam (Matt Cornett), while Charlie (Michael Bradway) suffers a heart attack after looking at a photograph of his past. Harris revealed that this moment was carefully crafted to set up Charlie's arc in future seasons. "In One Golden Summer, his heart is an issue, so we wanted to approach that in an impactful way," she said. "That photo... is a heartbreak to look at that picture of his happier times."

Fortune, who was surprised by some of the adaptation choices, praised Harris's vision. One major change involved Percy getting the keys to the tavern, a twist that Fortune initially questioned but now fully supports. "I was so nervous when I sent that script to her," Harris admitted. Fortune responded, "I was so surprised, but also I was so keen to see what happened next. It makes so much sense for the story."

Harris also teased the expansion of the ensemble, including the complicated love triangle between Jordie (Joseph Chiu), Chantal (Aurora Perrineau), and Delilah (Abigail Cowen). "We intentionally built out our other characters to make this a real ensemble piece," she said. "Hopefully, people will fall in love with all of the characters, and we'll get to explore their lives."

For fans wondering about the future of the franchise, Fortune hinted that more Barry's Bay stories could be on the horizon. "I'm very aware that..." she trailed off, leaving room for speculation. Meanwhile, Harris's five-season plan suggests a long journey ahead, with each season focusing on different romances and character arcs.
