David Fincher hasn't directed a theatrical feature in over a decade, but that's about to change with his upcoming Netflix release The Adventures of Cliff Booth. However, before that hits IMAX screens, fans have a limited window to revisit the film that cemented his legacy: Se7en. The 1995 thriller is currently streaming on Peacock, but it will be removed from the platform on August 1, 2026.
Fincher's career nearly ended before it began after the troubled production of Alien 3, which he has since disowned. But his sophomore feature, Se7en, was a critical and commercial triumph that defined the neo-noir genre. Starring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey, the film grossed over $325 million worldwide on a $35 million budget. The late critic Roger Ebert famously warned that it "may be too disturbing for many people."
The movie's influence is undeniable. It inspired countless imitators, including 2021's The Little Things starring Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto. Interestingly, Washington passed on Se7en but has since starred in several similar thrillers. Se7en holds an 84% critics' score and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus calling it "a brutal, relentlessly grimy shocker with taut performances, slick gore effects, and a haunting finale."
Fincher's partnership with Netflix has been fruitful, yielding two feature films and executive-producing hits like Mindhunter. But for those who want to experience his breakthrough on the big screen—or just stream it one last time—now is the time. Se7en leaves Peacock on August 1, 2026.
