Christopher Nolan fans, mark your calendars: The Prestige is set to vanish from Peacock on August 1, 2026. That gives you just over a year to revisit—or discover—one of the director's most beloved and underrated films.
Released in 2006, The Prestige is a twisting tale of rival magicians in Victorian England, played by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. The film also stars Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, and Rebecca Hall, and bears all the hallmarks of Nolan's signature style: intricate plotting, existential themes, and tortured male protagonists. It arrived between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and while it earned solid reviews and a respectable $110 million worldwide on a $40 million budget, it didn't immediately achieve the classic status it holds today.
Now, The Prestige sits at No. 42 on IMDb's Top 250 movies of all time, far surpassing the critical scores of Nolan's earlier Insomnia. Its reputation has only grown, and fans often cite it as one of the director's most overlooked gems. If you haven't seen it, or want to experience its clever narrative once more, Peacock is currently the only streaming home in the U.S.
Interestingly, the film's departure coincides with the theatrical release of Nolan's next epic, The Odyssey, which debuts in theaters worldwide on July 31, 2026—just one day before The Prestige leaves Peacock. Talk about a Nolan double feature.
For those who prefer the big screen, The Prestige is also slated for a special 20th-anniversary theatrical re-release later this year. But if streaming is your thing, don't wait until the last minute. After August 1, 2026, you'll need to rent or buy it elsewhere.
