Chris Hemsworth has had a rocky ride outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While his Thor remains a fan favorite, the actor's attempts to join other major franchises have often fallen flat. His supporting role in Ghostbusters: Answer the Call was overshadowed by box office disappointment, and his turn in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga didn't set the world on fire either. Even his voice work as Optimus Prime in Transformers One barely registered. But perhaps the most infamous misfire is Men in Black: International, the 2019 sci-fi action sequel that tanked with critics and audiences alike.
Now, seven years later, the film is getting a second chance on free streaming. Starting June 2026, Men in Black: International will be available to watch for free on Tubi, giving a new generation of viewers the chance to see what all the fuss—or lack thereof—was about.
A Troubled Production
The making of Men in Black: International was notoriously difficult. Reports emerged that Hemsworth and co-star Tessa Thompson had their own personal screenwriters on set to patch up dialogue on the fly. Director F. Gary Gray reportedly came close to quitting the project, only to be persuaded by the studio to stay. The result was a film that earned a dismal 23% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics' consensus calling it "Amiable yet forgettable."
Financially, the movie grossed $253 million worldwide against a $100 million budget—making it the lowest-grossing entry in the Men in Black franchise. For comparison, Men in Black III earned over $650 million globally, though it also cost significantly more to produce.
Streaming Redemption
Despite its theatrical underperformance, Hemsworth has found success on streaming platforms. His neo-noir crime thriller Crime 101 became a hit on Prime Video, and the Extraction films have been massive draws for Netflix. The actor will next appear in Avengers: Doomsday, hoping to recapture box office glory. But for now, fans can revisit his sci-fi misstep for free.
