Los Angeles, roll out! Collider is teaming up with Hasbro and Fathom Entertainment to give fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate four decades of Transformers on the big screen. On September 8, we're hosting a special event at the Landmark Sunset Theatre that will transport you back to 1986 and give you a sneak peek at the future of the franchise.
The evening kicks off with a screening of the beloved animated classic The Transformers: The Movie, which first hit theaters in August 1986. To mark its 40th anniversary, we're bringing it back for a special theatrical run, and this event is your chance to experience it with fellow fans. But that's not all—attendees will also be treated to an exclusive advance screening of the brand-new animated short Optimus Prime: Awakening, directed by Josh Wassung (Predator: Killer of Killers). This 12-minute love letter to the Transformers community features original voice performances from the late, legendary Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, reprising their iconic roles as Optimus Prime and Megatron/Soundwave. You'll see it before it officially arrives in theaters on Transformers Day, September 17.
After the screenings, Wassung will take the stage for an exclusive Q&A moderated by Collider's own Steve Weintraub. It's a rare chance to hear firsthand about the making of the short and the enduring legacy of the franchise. The evening will also honor the memory of Peter Cullen, whose voice defined generations—from Optimus Prime to the Predator's clicks, Venger in the '80s Dungeons & Dragons series, the Mogwai in Gremlins, and Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh.
