Callum Turner, known for his aerial exploits in Apple TV+'s Masters of the Air, is trading the skies for the high seas this summer in the mind-bending sci-fi mystery Rose of Nevada. The film follows the titular fishing vessel, which vanished 30 years ago only to mysteriously reappear—unmanned but promising fortune to a small harbor town. Two men, played by Turner and BAFTA nominee George MacKay, find themselves drawn into its eerie voyage.
Exclusive new images from the film showcase the analog, folkloric aesthetic director Mark Jenkin brings to the project. One haunting shot captures MacKay's character, Nick, a desperate family man, framed by rusty chains against a misty blue sky. Another shows the two leads rushing to save a crew member who's fallen overboard, hinting at the stormy nights and creeping terror ahead.
A Time-Traveling Twist
On their first voyage, Nick and Liam (Turner) are thrust through time. When they return to harbor, nothing is as they remember, and they're mistaken for members of the original crew. For Nick, who joined to provide for his young family, it's a nightmare. For Liam, a drifter trying to outrun his past, the situation might be exactly what he needs—sparking tension between the two over how and whether to get home.
The film's cast also includes Rosalind Eleazar, Francis Magee, Mary Woodvine, and Edward Rowe. Jenkin, who also wrote the script, brings a similar analog-surreal style to his 2022 horror Enys Men, which also starred Woodvine and Rowe.
Critical Acclaim and Release
Rose of Nevada premiered at the Venice International Film Festival to widespread acclaim and currently holds a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have praised Jenkin's direction and captivating storytelling. The film hits U.S. theaters on June 19.
