Mark Gatiss, the creative force behind the modern Sherlock revival, has more good news for fans of his latest TV venture. His cozy crime drama Bookish has officially been renewed for a third season, and it's also getting a festive two-part special. The announcement comes as the show gears up for its second season, which is set to premiere later this year.
Since its debut in July 2025, Bookish has become a standout hit for U&Alibi, drawing in 1.5 million viewers for its premiere—the channel's second-highest ever. The series stars Gatiss as Gabriel Book, a bookshop owner with a knack for solving mysteries, and it has been praised for its witty writing and memorable characters. With such a strong start, it's no surprise that the network is doubling down on the show's success.
What's Next for Gabriel Book?
The upcoming Christmas special, titled Bookish: The Crown of Destiny, will see Gabriel open the doors of Book's Books on Archangel Lane for a seasonal mystery filled with festive charm and surprises. Meanwhile, production on Season 3 is slated to begin later this year, with promises of even more intrigue and wit. The show's creator previously hinted that the second season would be "more ambitious," so fans can expect bigger twists and deeper character development.
Season 2 will plunge Gabriel into the world of spiritualism as he investigates a case involving medium Harold Sneed and a séance full of secrets. The returning cast includes Polly Walker as Trottie Book, Connor Finch as Jack Blunt, Elliot Levey as Inspector Bliss, Blake Harrison as Sergeant Morris, and Buket Kömür as Nora. Guest stars for the new episodes include Jason Watkins, Miranda Richardson, Simon Callow, Claire Skinner, and Youssef Kerkour.
When Does Season 2 Premiere?
Bookish Season 2 is set to debut in the UK on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, on U&Alibi. A US release date on PBS has not yet been announced. For those who can't get enough of Gatiss's work, he's also been busy with other projects, including recent appearances in Fantastic Four: First Steps and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, as well as his ongoing contributions to Doctor Who. In fact, he recently shared his thoughts on the show's future, which you can read about here.
