The Belcher family is gearing up for a winter wonderland, even if their famous burger joint is taking a brief hiatus. Fox's Animation Domination lineup is shifting this year, with Bob's Burgers moving to midseason for its 17th season. But fans won't have to wait that long for new adventures, thanks to a special holiday treat coming to Hulu.
At San Diego Comic-Con, the network unveiled a new short titled On the Fort Day of Christmas, set to premiere on the streaming service. This marks a continuation of the show's beloved tradition of Christmas specials, which have been a staple since Season 3's "Bob Rest Ye Merry Gentle-Mannequins." The new short promises to keep that streak alive, even as the regular season takes a brief pause.
The story centers on Gene, Tina, and Louise, who seize the opportunity presented by a record-breaking snowstorm to construct the ultimate snow fort. It's a classic childhood fantasy taken to hilarious and heartwarming extremes, exactly what fans have come to expect from the show's unique blend of humor and family warmth.
During a recent panel at New York Comic Con, series creator Loren Bouchard, along with voice actors Kristen Schaal, Eugene Mirman, Dan Mintz, H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, and Larry Murphy, shared insights into the upcoming special. They revealed that On the Fort Day of Christmas will debut on December 7, exclusively on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S. The panel also treated attendees to an exclusive sneak peek, offering a glimpse of the chaotic winter fun in store.
This holiday special arrives as Bob's Burgers continues to solidify its legacy. Since its debut in 2011, the show has earned two Emmys and spawned a successful musical movie, proving its staying power alongside other Animation Domination heavyweights like The Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad. The series was renewed for four more seasons last year, ensuring the Belchers will be flipping burgers through at least the 2028-29 season.
While fans eagerly await Season 17, this new short offers a perfect way to celebrate the holidays with the Belchers. It's a chance to see the kids' imaginative schemes and the family's quirky dynamics in a festive setting. For those who can't get enough of the show, this is a must-watch event.
In the meantime, there's plenty more to look forward to in the world of animation and beyond. For instance, Family Guy's Halloween special recently made waves by dethroning Avengers: Endgame on Disney+, showing that animated comedies continue to dominate streaming charts. And if you're in the mood for more holiday cheer, Eternally Yours is adding a Christmas special to its lineup, featuring Tim Meadows and some familiar faces from Ghosts.
Mark your calendars for December 7, and get ready to build some snow forts with the Belchers. Bob's Burgers is proving that even a midseason break can't stop the holiday spirit.
