Archie Andrews has faced zombies, love triangles, and now, literal hell. The iconic redhead's latest comic adventure, Archie in Hell, takes him to the underworld, and the newly released issue #2 promises a terrifying detour into Riverdale's colonial past, complete with witch hunts and paranoia.
This series is part of Archie Comics' exciting new partnership with indie publisher Oni Press, which has been revitalizing the classic characters. After relaunching the main Archie series and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, they've now unleashed this horror-tinged tale from writer Patrick Horvath and artist Tyler Crook. The first issue revealed a sinister cult that has secretly manipulated Riverdale for a century, and they need one final sacrifice: Archie himself.
Now, in Archie in Hell #2, Archie is thrown back in time to the earliest days of Riverdale, when it was a colonial settlement. He encounters familiar faces—or at least their ancestors—but this version of the town is gripped by superstition and fear of witchcraft. Can Archie escape the burning stake and find his way back to the present, or is he doomed to perish in the past?
Collider has an exclusive preview of the issue, which hits stores on December 16. The creative team, known for their work on Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees and Harrow County, brings a chilling atmosphere to this time-traveling nightmare. The issue features covers by Crook, Dustin Weaver, Jonathan Case, Abigail Harding, Dan Parent, and Patricia Martín.
This isn't Archie's first brush with the supernatural. The acclaimed Afterlife With Archie series, which turned Riverdale into a zombie apocalypse, is also getting a TV adaptation on Disney+ just in time for next Halloween. And for those who prefer their Archie on the big screen, an animated movie is in the works from the minds behind The Lego Movie, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
As Archie fights for his soul in hell, fans can also catch up on other exciting developments in the entertainment world. For instance, Zach Cregger's surprising iPhone filmmaking trick is making waves, and the definitive ranking of Star Wars movies is a must-read for any fan.
But for now, all eyes are on Archie's fiery predicament. Will he outsmart the colonial witch hunters and the demonic cult? Pick up Archie in Hell #2 on December 16 to find out. Issue #1 is available now, so there's no better time to dive into this hellish adventure.
