Will Ferrell is trading in his figure skates for a golf club. The comedy icon is making a long-awaited return to episodic television with Netflix's upcoming sports comedy series The Hawk, and we've got an exclusive first look at the man in action.
In the new image, Ferrell is pure golf pro swagger: a baby blue polo, a logo visor framing a fresh haircut, and a puka shell necklace that screams '90s nostalgia. He's ready to let his clubs do the talking as he preps for the biggest underdog story in golf history.
The series marks Ferrell's first major TV role since his 2021 turn in Apple TV+'s dark psychological comedy The Shrink Next Door. While he's stayed busy with films like Will & Harper, You're Cordially Invited, and A Very Jonas Christmas Movie, fans have been craving a proper episodic comeback. The Hawk delivers that and more.
Ferrell stars as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a former golf champion who dominated the sport two decades ago. Now, he's attempting a massive comeback to win the Grand Slam. But the road to redemption is paved with obstacles—chief among them his own son, Lance, played by Jimmy Tatro. Lance has followed in his father's footsteps and become the biggest name in the game, setting up a classic father-son rivalry on the green.
The series channels the same over-the-top energy Ferrell brought to the ice rink in Blades of Glory (2007), but this time he's swapping bedazzled spandex for a flashy polo and a putting green. Expect plenty of laughs, heart, and the kind of absurd sports antics only Ferrell can deliver.
Joining Ferrell and Tatro is a stacked ensemble cast. Molly Shannon (Superstar), Fortune Feimster (The Mindy Project), Luke Wilson (Old School), Chris Parnell (Fallout), David Hornsby (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Katelyn Tarver (Famous in Love), Aida Osman (Random Acts of Flyness), and Gabriel Hogan (Condor) round out the roster.
With a summer release date on the horizon, The Hawk is shaping up to be one of Netflix's most anticipated originals. For more on what's coming to the streamer, check out our May 15 binge guide and our list of forgotten Netflix gems.
