LEGO has officially unveiled its first-ever Wallace & Gromit set, and it's already available for pre-order. The beloved claymation duo is getting the brick treatment, with a release date set for October 1, 2026.
The set, which costs $99.99, is based on the 1995 Oscar-winning short film Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave. It includes 1,038 pieces and lets builders recreate Wallace and Gromit riding their iconic motorbike, complete with posable figures for both characters.
This isn't just any LEGO release—it's part of the LEGO Ideas program, which turns fan-submitted concepts into official sets. The design comes from fan builder Sébastien Esnault (also known as Pidelium), who won the LEGO Ideas challenge "90s Throwback – The Next Chapter". That contest asked creators to imagine sets based on iconic TV shows and films from the 1990s, and Esnault's Wallace & Gromit pitch clearly stood out.
LEGO Ideas has a track record of bringing non-traditional brands to the brick aisle, from Snoopy and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial to The Nightmare Before Christmas and even everyday objects like Polaroid cameras and typewriters. This Wallace & Gromit set marks the first time the franchise has been immortalized in LEGO form, and it's a dream come true for fans of Aardman Animations.
What Is 'A Close Shave' About?
For those who need a refresher, Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave is the third short in the franchise, following The Wrong Trousers. In it, Wallace and Gromit run a window-cleaning business, but their routine is upended when a sheep named Shaun follows them home. Wallace, ever the inventor, decides to clean Shaun with one of his contraptions—but things go sideways when a sinister dog named Preston steals the machine as part of a larger scheme involving the local sheep population.
The short was a critical darling, earning a 100% critics score and a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1996. And it introduced the world to Shaun the Sheep, who went on to star in his own spin-off series in 2007—a show that's still running today and has become one of the longest-running animated series on British television.
