Jensen Ackles is making a high-stakes return to CBS's Tracker just in time for the season 3 finale. Fresh off the series finale of The Boys, Ackles reprises his role as Russell Shaw, the long-estranged brother of protagonist Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley). In an exclusive sneak peek, the Shaw brothers gear up for what might be their most perilous mission yet.
The clip, titled "The Best Ones," shows Colter and Russell discussing a plan to free a woman named Lola from a dangerous research project with far-reaching tentacles. But simply rescuing Lola isn't enough—the organization behind her captivity will stop at nothing to get her back and eliminate the Shaw brothers. Their solution? "Unalive" the head of the snake, as Russell puts it, to dismantle the threat for good. Of course, they first need to find the snake's lair. Will their gamble pay off, or will the organization strike back? Viewers will have to tune in Sunday, May 24, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+ to find out.
What Is Tracker About?
Based on Jeffery Deaver's Colter Shaw novels, Tracker follows Colter, a nomadic "rewardist" who uses his survival and tracking skills to help law enforcement and private citizens across the country. Initially aided by handlers Teddi (Robin Weigert) and Velma Bruin (Abby McEnany), and hacker Bobby Exley (Eric Graise), Colter now works with lawyer Reenie Greene (Fiona Rene) and computer expert Randy (Chris Lee). The series has been a ratings hit for CBS, often leading its time slot and drawing comparisons to other crime dramas like Taylor Sheridan's Marshals.
The overarching mystery has been the death of Colter's father, Ashton. In last week's episode, Colter finally uncovered the truth: Ashton's murder is linked to the same shadowy organization the brothers now face. This sets the stage for a revenge-fueled finale that promises to deliver closure—and plenty of action.
Brothers in Arms
The dynamic between Colter and Russell has been a highlight of the season. Ackles brings a gritty intensity to Russell, a character who shares his brother's skills but carries a darker edge. The finale gives them a chance to work together, and the clip suggests their bond will be tested as they confront a common enemy. For fans of Ackles from Supernatural or The Boys, this is a must-watch return.
Executive produced by Hartley, Ken Olin, Elwood Reid, Connie Dolphin, Sharon Lee Watson, and Alex Katsnelson, "The Best Ones" was written by Reid and Travis Donnelly and directed by Olin. The series has already been renewed for a fourth season, so while this finale may resolve some threads, Colter's journey is far from over.
Don't miss the season 3 finale of Tracker this Sunday, May 24, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. For more on the series and other thrilling shows, stay tuned to ShowtimeSpot.
