Chevrons are locking once again! Prime Video is officially moving forward with a new Stargate series, and this time they've enlisted a heavyweight creator known for blending sci-fi with deeply human stories. Jac Schaeffer, the visionary behind Marvel's WandaVision and its hit spin-off Agatha All Along, is set to spearhead the project, according to Variety.

The Stargate franchise has a storied history that began with the 1994 film from Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. That movie introduced audiences to an ancient alien device buried in the Egyptian desert, which, when activated, creates a portal to a distant world where powerful beings pose as gods. A military team led by Colonel Jack O'Neill (Kurt Russell) and Egyptologist Daniel Jackson (James Spader) thwarted those malevolent aliens and freed their human captives. The film's success spawned the beloved TV series Stargate SG-1, starring Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks, which ran for an impressive 10 seasons and 214 episodes. That show, in turn, gave rise to spin-offs like Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe, but the franchise has been largely dormant since Universe was cancelled in 2011—much to the dismay of its dedicated fanbase.

Why Harlan Coben's 'Missing You' Is the Netflix Thriller to Binge This Weekend
If you loved James Nesbitt in 'Run Away,' check out his darker role in 'Missing You'—a twisty 5-episode Harlan Coben thriller that's ideal for a weekend binge.

Now, Prime Video is breathing new life into the universe, and Schaeffer is the perfect choice to lead the charge. She first made waves with WandaVision, Disney+'s inaugural Marvel series that became a cultural phenomenon in 2021. The show cleverly deconstructed sitcom tropes while exploring grief and identity through the eyes of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). Schaeffer then followed up with Agatha All Along, a darkly fun spin-off centered on the witch Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), which further cemented her reputation as a master of genre storytelling.

Schaeffer recently signed an overall deal with Prime Video, and the Stargate series will be her first project under that agreement. While details about the plot and casting remain under wraps, the news has already sparked excitement among fans who have waited over a decade for the franchise to return. The earlier attempt at a reboot, which was reportedly scrapped earlier this year, had left many wondering if the gate would ever open again. Now, with Schaeffer at the helm, the possibilities seem endless.

This isn't the only sci-fi buzz at Prime Video. The streamer has been doubling down on genre fare, from the epic Norse drama Bloodaxe's January premiere to the mind-bending thrills of Daniel Isn't Real. Adding Stargate to the lineup only strengthens their genre portfolio.

Schaeffer's track record suggests she'll bring a fresh perspective to the Stargate mythology, balancing high-stakes adventure with character-driven drama. Her ability to weave complex narratives with emotional resonance—as seen in WandaVision—could be exactly what the franchise needs to captivate both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

As the project moves forward, fans will be eagerly awaiting casting announcements and plot details. Will we see familiar faces from the original series? Will the new show explore uncharted corners of the galaxy? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the Stargate universe is about to get a whole lot more interesting.
