Two years after the Season 2 finale, Solo Leveling fans finally have something to celebrate. The hit anime, based on the beloved webtoon, is officially returning—not as a live-action adaptation, a video game, or even a South Korean ice show, but as a direct continuation of the award-winning series. Sony Pictures and Kakao Entertainment have confirmed that Sung Jinwoo's journey will continue in a new feature film titled Solo Leveling — Beyond the System — The Movie.

What Is Solo Leveling About?

Set in a world where mysterious portals called gates open up, unleashing monsters into the modern world, Solo Leveling follows superpowered humans known as Hunters who close these gates by defeating the dungeon bosses. Hunters are ranked by strength, and normally, they cannot level up or increase their powers. That all changes when Sung Jinwoo, an E-Rank hunter—the weakest of the weak—survives a near-death experience and is chosen by a mysterious System that grants him the ability to level up. He rises from the bottom to become an S-Rank Hunter, one of the most powerful beings alive.

Both seasons of the anime were massive successes, with Crunchyroll dubbing it the most popular anime on its platform at the time of release. The show's blend of action, fantasy, and character growth has made it a global phenomenon, and fans have been eagerly awaiting news of a third season.

Season 3 Is a Movie: Beyond the System

In a surprising twist, Sony Pictures announced that Season 3 will take the form of a feature film rather than a traditional TV season. Titled Solo Leveling — Beyond the System — The Movie, the project is currently in production. While a full plot synopsis and release date have yet to be revealed, a social media post from Sony Pictures described it as a "thrilling continuation of Sung Jinwoo’s story after the last season." To build hype, Crunchyroll released a concept video blending live-action and animation, showing Jinwoo (voiced by Taito Ban in Japanese and Aleks Le in English) questioning the immense power he has gained.

The trailer ends with the text "SOLO LEVELING S3 — The Movie," confirming that this film is indeed the next chapter. This isn't the first time Solo Leveling has gone the movie route—in 2024, A-1 Pictures released Solo Leveling: ReAwakening, a compilation of Season 1 with the first two episodes of Season 2 attached.

What to Expect From the Movie

Producer Atsushi Kaneko has previously teased that Jinwoo's rise to power will come at a cost, challenging his emotional and moral integrity. The anime has adapted the first 13 story arcs of the web novel, ending with the 14th arc, the "Recruitment Arc." Based on available information, Beyond the System is expected to continue with the Recruitment Arc, then move into the Ahjin Guild Arc, and likely the Double Dungeon Arc—where Jinwoo returns to the dungeon where his near-death experience first occurred.

This film follows a trend set by other major anime franchises like Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, both of which found huge box office success.
