Apple TV+'s beloved spy series Slow Horses is officially trotting back for a sixth season, and we finally know when to expect the next batch of episodes. The streamer has confirmed that the show will return on September 16, 2026, and to whet fans' appetites, they've released a set of first-look photos from the upcoming season.
Based on Mick Herron's acclaimed novels, Slow Horses follows the misfits of Slough House—the dumping ground for MI5 agents deemed too incompetent for the field. Under the leadership of the foul-mouthed, flatulent, and surprisingly brilliant Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), these so-called 'slow horses' somehow keep stumbling into the most dangerous conspiracies in British intelligence.
The new images show Lamb looking as disheveled as ever, alongside River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), who continues to chafe under Lamb's unorthodox methods. Also glimpsed are Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas), now promoted to head of MI6, and the rest of the Slough House crew. The photos suggest a season full of tension and high-stakes espionage, with the team appearing to be on the run.
What Happened in Season 5?
Season 5 threw London into chaos with a series of seemingly random attacks—eco-terrorism, a violent mayoral election, and a terrorist incident at the London Zoo. The culprits turned out to be a cell of Libyan agents seeking revenge for Britain's role in the fall of their former regime. Complicating matters, Slough House's own insufferable tech genius Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung) unwittingly aided them by dating a Libyan spy. Lamb and his team managed to save the city and, more importantly, keep Slough House from being shut down.
What's Next for the Slow Horses?
Season 6 picks up with the team in a precarious position. Despite saving the day yet again, they find themselves pawns in a game orchestrated by Diana Taverner. The first-look images hint at a season where the Slow Horses are on the run, with no clear allies in sight. Will their luck finally run out? Fans will have to wait until September to find out.
Slow Horses has been one of Apple TV+'s most consistent hits, debuting in 2022 with two seasons and releasing a new six-episode season every year since. The show's blend of sharp writing, dark humor, and stellar performances—especially Oldman's scene-stealing turn as Lamb—has earned it a devoted following.
Apple TV+ has also expanded the Herron universe with Down Cemetery Road, a mystery series starring Emma Thompson as private detective Zoë Boehm. That show premiered last year and has already been renewed for a second season. For more on Apple TV+'s growing slate, check out our look at Dark Matter Season 2 and the upcoming Widow's Bay.
Season 6 of Slow Horses premieres on Apple TV+ on September 16, 2026. Stay tuned for more updates as the release date approaches.
